Heh. Just letting you know...It's not my intention to upset anyone, but I'm old, old friends with Hal, so I wanted to give him a head's up.

They wanted to post examples of this site which were ridiculous and they dont quote me?

Haha, wow. The poster of that HAS to be at least a very dedicated lurker, as they managed to pick out every single example of crazy that has cropped up recently.

Damn, no quotes from me either. They've chosen a few to make fun of, and have no doubt taken these posts out of context. Easily done.......not a biggie.

lol actually, in general, someone "nominates" a board to be made fun of. Than the writer of the article goes there and researches. Most of the writers there get paid, I believe, so he had incentive.

Actually, the gun forum there had a whole thread about you last year. It's archived now and you can't see it if you're not a member with archive access, though. They were more amused by ziadel's Ron Paul signature.

Weekend Web is posted in a forum not viewable by the public, and this week's screenshots were submitted by 20 people, most of which were fro go supermodel. Only 3 people pulled anything from TFP, and none of their identities cross-reference to any established members here.

All we do is go to the forum index, click any subforums that might have something amusing, and maybe dig two or three pages into each forum for promising thread titles (sex, relationships, anythign that might be embarrassing.)

Really as a reader of the weekend web they had to be desperate to pick TFP.

Yeah, the real goon rushes come from the forums, which are far more popular than the main site. Most people don't even go to the frontpage.

If you have experienced anything out of the ordinary, it would be wise to change your forums password as a precaution. Report any instances of account tampering to support and we'll fix you up.

Well, what happened!?

At 12:50PM CST, someone logged in our account at our domain registrar and updated "somethingawful.com" nameservers to point to Network Solutions' placeholder nameservers. Everyone started getting the NSI placeholder page, as if the domain was not setup yet.

A goon at our ISP noticed this shortly after and called me. We corrected the nameservers and changed our account username and password with our registrar. The change went through at 1:12pm CST and all was well.

Until 2:51pm CST, that is, when the domain was altered again by unknown forces. The whois information was returning the same placeholder domains as before. Lowtax called NSI and got ahold of someone slightly helpful, and he locked the domains for us so they could not be tampered with further.

At this point, it does not appear the compromise occurred via anyone at SA or via the domain email account. I'm reluctant to believe Network Solutions may have some vulnerability that allowed this, but we are not ruling that out. Whatever the case, this should never have happened. For now, I'll just blame myself!

The domain has been locked for hours now, but people are still running into strange goings on. We have no knowledge of who did this or why, and we don't really care. It's the internet - shit happens. To us, usually. We will be reviewing our registrar situation to ensure our identity is secure in the future.
