Fujimori Convicted - Justice Served?

Alberto Fujimori was convicted today and sentenced to 6 years. http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/americ....ap/index.html

He still has two more trials to go for other crimes too. Was justice served? I always believed he was guilty and their court systems has deemed so as well. I was especially angry that he fled to Japan and was harbored there. As such, I feel the Japanese are complicit to his crimes too for obstruction of justice.

I must admit, I wasn't too sure the Peruvian justice system would prevail and thought he would get off scot free but to my surprise, they actually convicted him.

What do you think? Justice served? Got off too light? Did the international justice system work this time to bring him to justice?

The short blurb in my paper said that the more serious charges of corruption and human rights abuses are yet to come. Six years for ordering an illegal search seems fair enough if they are able to get convictions on the the rest.

Jorgelito, how did it come about that Fujimori was finally returned to Peru? I haven't been following this closely.

The Japanese, as usual were uncooperative. Fujimori was in Chile and the Chileans returned him eventually to Peru to the surprise of the authorities.

I hope this trend of bring criminal leaders to justice, especially if they are successful in geting him on the other charges.

I wish the same. Rumsfeld nicked out the back door a little too quickly for the French to nab him.

Actually, I first heard of this extradition to Peru when I was visiting South Beach. I ordered a Pisco Sour in honor of the event.

Though a lot can be said about the use of power in the face of terrorism, Fujimori deserves to get his due. Personally, I think six years is a bit light.
