Is it legal to answer the door naked?
Not that I plan to, but occasionally I sunbathe naked in my back yard. For that matter, is that legal? Occasionally I want to scare away a Jehovah's witness or two and the thought crossed my mind...

You'd have to check your local ordinances.
I think in most places as long as you are in your own home or no more than something like 5 feet outside of it you are ok. If you have a privacy fence around your yard where you sunbathe then I see no reason to worry. |

not in the UK, its indecent exposure.
Not sure about other places. Why not just tell them how much you love getting blood transfusions?

Inside your home, and within the confines of a properly fenced backyard...you're fine. Be naked to your hearts content. When you open your front door, however, you have reasonable expectation (someone rang the doorbell afterall) that you are about to expose yourself to someone. I don't know what the liability of something like that would be, but common sense tells me that it's probably best to avoid the situation.

It really depends on your local ordinances. In some places in Oregon, it's perfectly legal to walk down the street naked; the state has placed no restrictions on public nudity. Rather, they leave it up to individual counties and cities to decide what their community is comfortable with. Nudity in Oregon is not considered illegal unless it is considered a nuisance--so, for instance, there have been restrictions on where nude beaches can be located, due to the fact that some property owners complained about their ability to clearly see a nude beach.
But on your own property, behind your own fence, is perfectly legal. I used to do it all the time when I was in my teens.

In this city it is illegal to walk around your own home naked if you can be seen by your neighbours. It is considered indecent exposure.
If you are going to have indecent exposure laws, I would think that if you are exposing yourself to people beyond the borders of your property you are committing the act.

There was a story in the UK press this week, about a guy who locked himself into his hotel room, and frotted himself on his bicycle (WTF?).
The landlord knocked, got no answer, unlocked the door with a passkey and the man has now been prosecuted for indecency, exposure, and put on the sex offenders register. For being naked in a locked room. So don't answer the door.

i can't believe being naked in your own home would be illegal.
one thing i *do* know: if you are a woman and order a pizza, you can answer the door naked, and pay for the pizza by inviting the guy in and both you and your attractive female friend, also naked, screw the daylights out of him. i saw it in a documentary, or somehting...

Pretty certain it's illegal here - I've answered the door in various states or undress though anything from running around the side of the house in my bikini (we have a pool) to answering the door wrapped in a towel
Luckily we don't have people come to our door often and never religious groups - usually the red cross or salvation army.

I used to deliver pizzas (absolutely the most fun I have EVER had while working) and had a woman answer the door completely nude...other than that lots and lots of scantily clad people!
Why would any women order a pizza and then take a shower/bath? Never complained!

I would assume it would be indecent exposure. I heard of a case, and I assume this is a rare situation, of a man who was found guilty of indecent exposure when a woman walked up to his house and started looking in his windows and saw him naked. The ruling said something about him "allowing" himself to be seen naked. There are some very fragile people in the world.

well, the law in the UK is complex, but it can be summed up broadly as
it is legal to be naked in your back yard or in your own house. it is illigal to be naked in your front yard, or any part of the house which can be viewed from a public space (ie - the front door the front yard, front facing windows, etc etc...) And of course, there is a bit of a double standard. I never heard of a woman being up on a public indecency charge I want to make it clear that I am not complaining about this double standard!

I remember reading a story about a guy in the south who would walk around naked in his house with all the blinds open so he was visible from the street and eventually I think the police charged him with indecent exposure.
So in some cases it seems like you're not really even safe in your own home! But I'd guess if you just opened the door naked once or something it wouldn't draw that much attention... just make sure no one sees you else the neighbors might think you're a freak or something. |

I was always unlucky to have clothed women answer the door when I was a kid mowing lawns.
Had a couple in bikinis, but nothing more risque. Btw, how are you going to get in trouble if you answer the door nekkid, and the only person that sees you is the person at the door? Innit your word vs theirs?
