First I feed the cat, because her demanding food is usually the reason I can't sleep. Then I drink some water or go to the bathroom (I usually need to piss all of a sudden). Then I go back to bed, and back to sleep.
If I *really* can't sleep (unlikely to happen), I wake up and surf the internet or something; do what I do by day. |

Usually I call in sick to work first. No way i can stay up for another 8 hours and stare at a wall not able to play games.
Sometimes I put in Lord of the Rings or some other long ass dvd and that will make me drift off eventually.

Anything but try to go to sleep. I find that I can never get to sleep if I sit there trying to. Watching TV late at night in the dark will almost always put me to sleep within 20 minutes or so, no matter whats on.

Heh, how topical for me. Couldn't sleep last night did think about comin' here and having a few posts, but decided might wake flatmate (Laptop in lounge for shared access).
Watched live Baseball instead (dunno if anyone saw the game yesterday), by fourth or fifth inning out like a light.

Usually if I lie down in bed and put the TV on I will fall asleep regardless of what is on.
Even when I don't want to fall asleep I do when lying in bed watching TV usually. This has caused me to miss a lot of exciting sport game endings, so it isn't entirely a good thing.

Sometimes get online, usually here or the chatroom. But if I don't feel like getting out of bed, I'll just throw on some headpones and let some great music put me to sleep. It works most of the time.

Sleep? I'm a long time insomniac, so I get 3-4 hours anight. If I can't sleep immediatly, I give up and work on some art or surf. I try to avoid waking the wife up in the process.. however, if she is ALSO awake, then it is gaaaaaaaame on.

Um... depends on why I can't sleep. If its cause i've got too much stuff running through my head, I'll get up, go out into the hall (so I don't wake my roommate) and blast music through my headphones until my mind is blasted into oblivion. Then I go sleep.
Otherwise, its usually not a case of me not being able to sleep, just me not going to sleep. Games, TFP, bad TV shows... the things I spend my nights doing...

I never really have a problem getting to sleep - it's getting me to WANT to go to sleep - you miss out on so much by sleeping! Most of the time in the middle of the night you can find me on the computer or watching a movie or possibly TV. Sometimes, when I'm feeling particularly productive, I'll clean in the middle of the night - it's the only time I truly get any cleaning done.
