Women's logic
Ever noticed how some women and perhaps some men are able to consistently get things right by using lines of argument that seem completely illogical?
While most women I know understand conventional logic, I have never met a man who can understand so called 'women's logic'. Can someone please explain to me how the hell it works? Is it somehow related to that equally mysterious 'women's intuition'? Why can women do it, but men can't? Or does anyone know any men who can? |
I don't understand the question. If the answer is completely illogical to the form of the situation or question, then it isn't a valid answer.
I just think men give up too easily to please the female counterparts, as not to cause too much hostiliy between them. I also think women are just plain stubborn. ;) |
when I saw the title to this thread 'womens logic' I thought two things.
1. what a massive oxymoron 2. maybe this should be on the philosophy forum :) |
My women has a way of thinking that is completely different logic from me. Her actions and thoughts are completely based off of emotion. She decides she needs to call this person, or write this person, or intervene this way, while sometimes this can get her into huge issues. I on the other hand try very hard to guide my actions by logical thinking, if I do A, and do B, I will get C. If it is not my problem, then I shall not interfere until it affects me.
Of course, she doesn't understand my logic and I dont get hers, so in effort to please her I must often follow her rules. |
Could you define what you mean by 'women's logic'? Like, give an example of what you're talking about?
Maybe I'm just blind to my own traits, but I think I'm a very logical person. Far too logical usually. Thinking usually just gets me into trouble. As does striving for complete mental and philosophical consistency. Perhaps my husband ratbastid (you out there?) can speak to this, but I don't know that I have access to what you're calling women's logic. What is it? |
I'm out here! And I'd be a damn fool to even think about responding to that.
Ah what the hell. I'm a damn fool. You know how sometimes you think that because a thing might happen, it has happened or will happen, and then your logic proceeds from there? I think that's the sort of thing John Henry is talking about here. |

And guys....don't even START to figure out our logic! That's what makes us so great...the mystery! lmao |

I'll try to spot a proper, less generic example tomorrow. |

I laughed upon Daval's reply and laughed even harder still at this! I won't even try to attempt a reply to the question as I fear a book would ensue regarding both women AND men... *walks away still chuckling at Daval & GakFace's quick wit* Shrugs...I love a great sense of humor! |
Women's logic: The use of using completely illogical things to prove a very base and logical statement.
Example: "Hmm it is raining outside... I should wear the red shoes rather than the blue shoes." A man would wonder, how the heck do you get from raining to shoes?! Man's thought process: "Hmm it is raining outside... I should get an umbrella" conclusion: Women don't and never have made sense, but don't worry, because they are always right (just ask your girlfriend/wife). On the flip side, men are predictable. |
oblar: it's not that it makes no sense to wear hte red shoes if it rains, it's that the thought process to get there wasn't walked step by step. maybe the red shoes have higher soles so her nylons won't get wet. maybe the red ones aren't open-toed like the blue ones.
check out the description of "global learners" (towards the end) here |
I'm with Daval. That's exactly what crossed my mind when I read the title.
Cheerios.... you've described mans logic with your higher soles closed toes theory. That would in fact make sense, but the whole point to this question is that there is normally no logical leap between rain and red shoes. Women I know would/could choose red over blue in the exact same shoe if the rain was coming down ! Personally I use the boots, but I'm a guy who likes dry feet. |
I dont think women's logic is quite as absurd as it seems...
while it may seem so, there is a perfectly good explanation...which is that women think faster... ie. it's raining, i will wear my red shoes not my blue... thought process: it's raining, my blue shoes are made out of suede, and it'd really wreck the hell out of them and the yellow shoes are sneakers will get smelly so these red dingy ones'll do. It's just that the thought process is so fast that it'd be annoying to explain all that. |
Well, there's also the idea of where women's logic is focussed. In the example being bandied about here, what's striking to me is what it says about the woman's attention that when it rains she thinks of shoes. However logical the process that gets her from blue to red, that she's thinking about shoes points to a certain femininity in her thinking.
Any man knows, the first think to think about when you see it's raining is the tee time you have for this afternoon! |
personally, i think about what I'm doing and how it'll be effected by the rain, but if you wann think about tea and crumpets, rat, that's your call ;)

My second thought was that with a wife and three daughters over 20 some odd years, logic is a stepchild that hides in the closet. Did I win any arguments during all that time? Hell, I don't even know! The women own the scoring system and it's in hexadecimal and encrypted or something. This whole thread makes me laugh. Go ahead and flame me ladies, you're all too late to do any damage. I've already been flamed like the glaze on fine china and mostly didn't even know how I sparked the fire. (Wanders away laughing insanely) |
Hmmm,...women's logic.
When they ask you if they look fat, tell them they look beautiful. And mean it. They are fishing for a compliment since they feel good about themselves. When they ask you what you are thinking about, tell them you are thinking about them and how wonderful they are.And mean it. Women need reassurances from us to keep trusting us. Men not so much. When a woman looks into your eyes and tells you that she loves you, don't say "me too".Tell her you love her too.And mean it. This is a big step vulnerability wise for a women so be well prepared. When a woman goes ape shit over the dumbest things and blames you for everything under the sun,run like hell and don't look back. There is not logic in that. There are plenty of logical women out there. |

And women's logic isn't that hard to understand guys. I'm not being base or vulgar in my thinking either. I'm a guy, but with the example about the rain and shoes, is it that much of a mental leap to think: 1) it's raining 2) I have 2 coats 3) one coat is blue 4) I have 2 blue dresses 5) one is appropriate for the occasion 6) I have no red dresses appropriate for the occasion 7) I have a blue purse and white hose 8) Where are my blue shoes to match? the thing is that when you think about women's logic, you fail to understand the form of thought process that goes on is exactly like yours in many ways. this was proven most adequately with the tee time example. Golf being rather important to many men (especially my father), they see rain and think of how that rain will effect the important things in their life. Women do the same exact thing, but their difference is not in their thought process per se, but in what they put great store and value in. Until you understand things that they care about, you'll never understand their thinking. I'm not married, and have been without a girlfriend for the last 6 months, and haven't really gone on more than a couple dates. But I did have a mother and older sister (18 months older ::shudder:: ) that drug me shopping every time they went out while i was young since my dad was either at work or (surprise!) on the golf course. |
hihii...funny thread! :)
and i'd wear the blue shoes simply because blue is a 'rainy' colour. perfectly logical! :D |

There's a pretty good joke over in Tilted Humor that speaks to this very discussion. Click Here.

Personally, I believe that the only way to argue against female logic is to become a Taoist. Like, think like the water, or something, staying in no solid form.
And sprinkle your underwear around the room every once in a while. Because women need it. What a man does with his underwear is a perfectly relevant in any discussion, apparently. |
This reminds me of a statement my mom made once when I said her argument switched topics every sentence with no connection: "Men and women think differently. Men think logically. Women don't. We just say whatever we think of first. Its not bad, just different." I didn't know how to react to that one.
I think the statement that they get things right thinking like that is more along the lines of saying so many things that some of it has to be right. You just forget everything else. |
now wait a sec. i dunno what you're mom's doin', but i can guarantee i think (or try to) before I speak, and that the thoughts follow a logical order, I'm not always CONSCIOUS of that order, but if i have to stop and think back about how i got to some idea, i can trace a path back. it's more of a sudden leap form of thinking than the step-by-step thoughts that seem more typical of male-kind.
|
cheerios, actually my mom is worse than normal, so maybe its just her. Some of the men on her side of the family are a little random too. I've certainly met women who make sense (relatively!), so I don't think this is universal.

I see as both sexes being as intuitive as they will allow themselves to be. It boils down to certain complacency to having fake conversations.
This is where Person A states something. Person B knows person A is not being 100% real (lying, manipulating, asking a question they know the answer to, etc) Person A knows that person B knows Person B knows that person A knows that person B knows they know and yet they go through the motions for multiple reasons based on programs they've learned early on Have you ever been engaged in conversation with a person you really didn’t want to be standing there talking to? Upon parting you say "I'll give you a call" and they other person says "OK, see ya" both of you know you wont call and yet both of you went through the motions. In arguments someone knows what they've done to offend; deep down inside they know, but the dishonesty with themselves is so convincing the autopilot makes it a reality. That could stem back to 1st grade instilling if we don’t have the right answer were a failure. The question is if everyone walked around with a Liar Liar (Jim Carey movie- where he couldn’t lie) scenario the honesty would be refreshing, but would the lack of games be the end of millions of relationships? I probably didn’t make a bit of sense to anyone-sorry. This is actually one of the many philosophies of Andrew Carnegie. |
I can explain Women's logic. The woman is always right the man is always wrong. No matter how many logical points you come up with no matter how many facts no matter how many other people agree with you. The man is wrong the woman is right. You will never win an argument. Remember that and it is easy after that.

Frowning Budah: you must be married. ;) Someone's got you trained good! ;)
|
Men are linear, women are circular. Linear logic is wholly understood by all, I don't understand the other brand. I guess that makes me stupid.
