Moderator Application
The TFP is looking to take in 2 or 3 new moderators on an interim basis. We're looking to keep the new moderators for up to 6 months before rotating in new heads. Possible permanent positions on the staff would be available pending any openings in the future.
Moderator duties include: Welcoming new members Instruction on board policy Directing discussions toward civility and growth Counseling for members Keeping the board clean of spam What we're looking for: Extensive membership and participation Level-headed discussion skills Not allergic to Tilted Politics Love for the TFP and what we do. Application: Username: Real name: Age: Reason for applying: What do you like about the TFP: What do you want to improve about the TFP: Which of your children would you sacrifice to ensure the TFP lives on: Any other info you'd like to add: Please fill out the application as well as possible and send it to me in a PM. |
good luck to the applicants!! I'm sure you'll get some good ones Halx...
not allergic to politics? thats a good one |
Yippie... New people to pick on...
I don't wear pants that often... |
Hmm. I would apply, because I love this place and have had experience with moderating, but those that participate in discussions more than myself are far more qualified.
Cheers to those that are accepted! |
I can think of several people that would make great moderators. I hope they step forward.
|
I sense a great disturbance in Halx's inbox.
|
Elphaba, if you or anyone else, thinks they know someone would be a great moderator, please send them a quick PM to suggest it to them.
Sometimes all it takes is a little nudge. |

Good luck to everyone... it's always so hard to pick 2 or 3 people from all the responses we get. But, like Halx said, they will be temporary positions- so in another 6 months, there will be another rotation of new mods, and another chance to pick more people. This will give people the chance to become more interactive with the way things go. The best way to get "real" input on decisions that matter to the community, is to really get the community represented in those decisions. By rotating basic moderators every 6 months, we will always have fresh ideas, and we will always have a fresh look at the "pulse" of the board- what people want or don't want, what works well and what doesn't, that sort of thing. And every once in a while (as often as we ever have), when there are openings to fill on the permanent staff, we will promote from those who already spent time as moderators. This means you get people promoted to permanent staff who already did the job for a while, and we were so impressed with their diplomacy, their ability to interact with members and perform mod duties, that they got taken on as a position on the actual staff- this would be the Super Moderators and Administrators. So once again- good luck, and I can't wait to see who we hear from! :) |
Wouldn't this sort of position be best filled by nomination rather than application? Or is application preferable because of the time commitment involved?

Still looking for more applications.
|
Accordingly, I shall not seek, and I will not accept, the nomination of my TFP family for a term as your Moderator.
|
Im ineligible to apply due to my allergy to politics....thats something my epi pen just wont work on
|
well I'm not allergic, I'd love to help moderate, but i don't have the time now, between school, work, building my business, wooing a wonderful woman, and coming up with alliterations, my time is tapped, maybe in 6 months.

You would have received a 10 if you had used "assembling alliterations" for an assonance :D |
yay a B! But it only matters if the wonderful wooed woman worships my whimsically wittiness.

Doh!!
You are, of course, and as usual....correct. I, on the other hand, stepped into the Way way Waaay back Machine, and recalled Gen. William T. Sherman's immortal words; "If drafted, I will not run; if nominated, I will not accept; if elected, I will not serve." Oopps. |
yesterday was the 116th anniversary of Sherman's death
|
Is Valentine's Day the anniversary of nearly everything?! :D
|
off course not!! today is the 165 anniversary of the first adhesive postage stamp in the US
/Im going to hush now since I have nothing more to add to the moderator application discussion  |
it's also national gumdrop day :D
tomorrow is the best holiday of all though :D |
If EVER a thread needed moderating.........
|
So...apply! ;)
|
Pardon my ignorance... but what's tomorrow?
|
Friday...duh.

it can be an international holiday - go forth and celebrate it :D
|
So I have the right to be grouchy? I can't wait! :D
|
Maybe if Halx upped the ante by offering mod-only slumber parties, you could get the quality applicants you're looking for!
|
or took off the politics thing lol
some of us that are afraid of that place would do a fantastic job watching out for spam and welcoming and helping new people :) I think politics should be the job of full time mods, not apprentices :p |

Please note that Astrocloud and smooth have exceedingly poor judgement. :shakehead:

We could put "For TFP Use Only" across the butt, like Exhib. watermarks!

Did y'all fail to read my post that I was a mod once, and did a piss poor job of it? I think the mods here can attest that I can be a "tad" bit mercurial, and have earned my share of yellow cards for it.
Please note the Lady Sage also has exceedingly poor judgement. |
Elphaba's being gracious (which we always appreciate), but if you really think someone should apply - send them a PM. They'll get the picture, and this thread won't look like a popularity contest.
|
I vote for uber....wait.
How does everyone feel about the idea of voting? No? Yes? Representative democracy? No? |
I applied, so...
Vote for NoSoup! *hands out buttons* |
Quote:
NoSoup for you! |
Quote:
Screw that! :grumpy: What could be nicer, after shoveling snow on a cold winter's day, that a grilled cheese sandwich and a piping hot bowl of tomato soup? Without the soup...all you've got is toasty bread with some processed cheese crap in the middle. Why...it's as American as apple pie. So...no soup is unamerican. And, what little child doesn't like a bowl of Chicken and Stars soup? Without it, millions of children throughout the world would be sad and cry. So...no soup makes little children cry. And what's best when you're feeling under the weather. You've got it. Chicken Noodle soup. Without it, thousands of workers would be calling in sick, thereby stifling productivity. So...no soup is bad for the economy. Vote for no soup? I don't think so. :orly: What? Oh... :paranoid: |
I would be happy to vote, but I feel candidates are probably interviewed and I doubt we would be provided with their qualifications and specifics about the people we would be voting on.
Unless I could make a sound, informed and viable vote.... yanno. Cant wait to see who the new mods are though! |

regardless, I'm thinking the politics pre-req is going to narrow the choices considerably... |
I would apply, politics is easy, but the fact that i'm always right might stick in the craw of the more often wrong members.;)

I think that people who want to be cops should absolutely never be allowed to be cops. It should be a completely randomly forced assignment -like being drafted.
The same goes for moderators. |
You're not funny. :)
