World's King 02-11-2007 12:07 PM

Yippie... New people to pick on...

I don't wear pants that often...

FuriousAvatar 02-11-2007 12:08 PM

Hmm. I would apply, because I love this place and have had experience with moderating, but those that participate in discussions more than myself are far more qualified.

Cheers to those that are accepted!

Elphaba 02-11-2007 12:16 PM

I can think of several people that would make great moderators. I hope they step forward.

tinfoil 02-11-2007 12:31 PM

I sense a great disturbance in Halx's inbox.

Charlatan 02-11-2007 02:44 PM

Elphaba, if you or anyone else, thinks they know someone would be a great moderator, please send them a quick PM to suggest it to them.

Sometimes all it takes is a little nudge.

Will do. :)

Let's see, no rashes and no children to give up. I'm on it.

Absolutely.

Good luck to everyone... it's always so hard to pick 2 or 3 people from all the responses we get. But, like Halx said, they will be temporary positions- so in another 6 months, there will be another rotation of new mods, and another chance to pick more people.

This will give people the chance to become more interactive with the way things go. The best way to get "real" input on decisions that matter to the community, is to really get the community represented in those decisions. By rotating basic moderators every 6 months, we will always have fresh ideas, and we will always have a fresh look at the "pulse" of the board- what people want or don't want, what works well and what doesn't, that sort of thing.

And every once in a while (as often as we ever have), when there are openings to fill on the permanent staff, we will promote from those who already spent time as moderators. This means you get people promoted to permanent staff who already did the job for a while, and we were so impressed with their diplomacy, their ability to interact with members and perform mod duties, that they got taken on as a position on the actual staff- this would be the Super Moderators and Administrators.

So once again- good luck, and I can't wait to see who we hear from! :)

Wouldn't this sort of position be best filled by nomination rather than application? Or is application preferable because of the time commitment involved?

Application is preferable because of the time - but if there's someone you want to nominate - by all means - send them a message and get them to apply.. I've done it in the past...

Daniel_ 02-12-2007 11:06 AM

Welcome to

(drumroll please.....)

Moderator Idol!

I agree with mal and would add that stepping forward with an application brings with it a greater degree of commitment to the task. I was nominated at another forum once, and declined because I didn't believe myself up to the task. When I accepted a second nomination, I proved myself right.

Halx 02-14-2007 12:00 AM

Still looking for more applications.

warrrreagl 02-14-2007 09:32 AM

Accordingly, I shall not seek, and I will not accept, the nomination of my TFP family for a term as your Moderator.

ShaniFaye 02-14-2007 09:34 AM

Im ineligible to apply due to my allergy to politics....thats something my epi pen just wont work on

Dilbert1234567 02-14-2007 09:53 AM

well I'm not allergic, I'd love to help moderate, but i don't have the time now, between school, work, building my business, wooing a wonderful woman, and coming up with alliterations, my time is tapped, maybe in 6 months.

8.5/10

You would have received a 10 if you had used "assembling alliterations" for an assonance :D

Dilbert1234567 02-14-2007 11:55 AM

yay a B! But it only matters if the wonderful wooed woman worships my whimsically wittiness.

Does that mean we can have a Simon to publicly humiliate applicants?

I publically nominate Elphaba for the task.

PS I am not up to it myself because I have no time.

Sherman? Yes, yes, right. Step into the Wayback Machine and we'll travel all the way back to 1968 where the initials L, B, and J stand out for some reason. Perhaps he was a man of some *moderation*

(threw in that last part to avoid a threadjack citation from Big Kahuna)

Bill O'Rights 02-15-2007 07:23 AM

Doh!!

You are, of course, and as usual....correct.

I, on the other hand, stepped into the Way way Waaay back Machine, and recalled Gen. William T. Sherman's immortal words; "If drafted, I will not run; if nominated, I will not accept; if elected, I will not serve."

Oopps.

ShaniFaye 02-15-2007 07:28 AM

yesterday was the 116th anniversary of Sherman's death

Sharon 02-15-2007 07:33 AM

Is Valentine's Day the anniversary of nearly everything?! :D

ShaniFaye 02-15-2007 07:38 AM

off course not!! today is the 165 anniversary of the first adhesive postage stamp in the US

/Im going to hush now since I have nothing more to add to the moderator application discussion

maleficent 02-15-2007 07:40 AM

it's also national gumdrop day :D

tomorrow is the best holiday of all though :D

warrrreagl 02-15-2007 08:03 AM

If EVER a thread needed moderating.........

Bill O'Rights 02-15-2007 08:21 AM

So...apply! ;)

Sharon 02-15-2007 08:50 AM

Pardon my ignorance... but what's tomorrow?

Bill O'Rights 02-15-2007 09:05 AM

Friday...duh.
