North Korean Torch Parade
Is anybody else curious as to how they pulled that one off? It looked pretty cool, and I would like to see what would happen here if we tried that. We would probably use CGI computers to do it instead of trying to get 250,000 people in one place and walking in an orderly fashion making letters. Looking at the pictures, it does seem kind of weird that there is hardly anyone in public until the parades and events. There leader might be a little out there, and they definitely have other problems with oppression and hunger, but in the pictures it doesn't look like a third world or poor country (at least not in the capital city).
Picture of the last parade (or North Korea's sole news ticker as Jon Stewart called it): http://news.yahoo.com/photo/061017/4...b314c32d26ce37 Pictures of North Korea with them practicing during the day (halfway done the page). http://homepage.mac.com/scodrington/...oAlbum104.html |

I find North Korea to be the most fascinating place in the world. It is difficult for me to form an opinion on just "how bad" the place is. Of course our government tells us that it is the most horrible place on earth, while the North Korean government claims it is a paradise. Either way, I have never seen pictures of a place that looked so bizarre. No advertisements, no litter, no traffic, and meticulously maintained government statues and buildings. It seems like the complete opposite of New York City! Of course outside the capital there are huge masses of people that are starving to death and that have no access to medicine. I just hope that I am able to visit North Korea before there is a war. It seems like a trip there would be the closest you would ever get to experiencing a real life mushroom trip and time travel. I do think it is good, on some level, that there is at least one place in the world that has remained untouched by our global economy. It is probably the only country in the world without a McDonalds and a Wal-Mart.
