If you could rewrite history
The point of this thread isn't to admit all the horrible things you've done in your past (There's another one for that). We've all done things that we wish we could take back. If you had the opportunity to take back ONE decision in your life, what would it be?
Personally, if I had a time machine and could change one event which happened in the past, I would go back to my second semester in college. I think I flunked every class (Except art) because I was too busy spending every second of every minute of every hour with the then love of my life. At the time, it seemed like a good idea but now-- Three years later-- When I look back and think about it, it was a very, very, very dumb thing to do. The relationship didn't work out, I got put on academic probation, I ended up taking the classes over again and I lost all my scholarships and grants for one semester (Luckily, I got them back). |
These types of things are cute but we are the sum of our decisions. Everything we've done (good or bad) made us what we are today. Therefore, the only reason to go and change the past (especially major, life changing events) is if you are horribly unhappy with your life. The shitty thing is that you still have no guarantees that thigns would be better.

exactly. I would do (most of) it again given the chance. History isn't meant to be rewritten, it's meant to be remembered, and learnt from. |
I'd prevent the agracultural revolution and keep manking in the hunter-gatherer society for a few thousand years.
Oh, in my lifetime? Meh, everything wen't pretty well. |
Given that if I changed my personal history my present would change, I wouldn't do it. I have a great wife and child, and there is nothing so awful in my past that I would endanger that.

for me? skip college and learn on my own. i'd be 15000$ richer.

Outside of a few sure thing investments I wouldn't change a whole lot in my life.
Before my life time I'd bring fire arms to the Roman Empire (pre-Constantine) and advance technology a couple of thousand years. |
Changing personal history is really just regretting past choices, something we all do. But different choices beget different choices.....
But that being said, I'd have done a few things differently, hoping that the things I love now would still be here. I'd have gone to college, but of course that means I'd have had to do better in high school. I would have taken the offer to go to Paris to model. I would not have proposed marriage. But had I done those things, I would probably not have my kids, my friends....or been whom I am now, warts and all. |
I have to agree with everyone, the decisions I've made have made me into the person I am today.
A year ago this day I would have said "I would've started college earlier". Now, I wouldn't even want to change that. |

Maybe I'm still bitter about schools only teaching how to jump through hoops and then the employers who demand graduates, act surprised that they end up with the equivelant of so many trained monkeys. |
In reality? I wouldn't change anything, because I wouldn't be with the wonderful woman I am with today...in Fantasy world?.... MICROSOFT MICROSOFT MICROSOFT!!!!!

If I could rewrite history..hmm...many things unfortunatly.I am not the type to say i dont have regrets.I have many.:|

Yeah, I wouldn't change how my life is now for anything, but... I sure wish I'd had a relationship with the girl who ended up just being my best friend in high school. There was one moment, we were closing up the school store together, and she went to kiss me. I was completely inexperienced and totally self-conscious and didn't have a scrap of social skills, and I played it off like a joke. If I could change one thing about my history, it would be that moment.

Tough call.
I love my wife, and wouldn't want to not be with her. But... But getting here meant passing through a lot of pain and missing out on many opportunities. If I had to go back to a tipping point in my life it'd be while I was at university. I broke up from my girlfriend because she slept with my flatmate. For a couple of months I went out with an older woman who was a mature student on my course. I got back together with my girlfriend soon after and it was her I married. We broke up and divorced years later when she cheated on me again. If I was to pick a point where my life could have had the maximum change from the minimum effort I would have stayed with the older woman and gone to live with her in Paris, and let her fund my PhD as she wanted. I'd have lived in a totally different world and not moved back to my hometown. |
