Yes but thats a healthy diet, if you are doing that you don't really need the walking in the first place from a weight stand point.

Burning extra calories is good, but its a LOT easier I'd think to not drink that one can of soda then do a 45 min areobic work out if you are only worried about weight. Health is another mater.

I agree. But walking is also good for the soul...

But really, all we're doing is debating about the various components of lifestyle choices. Neither of us is wrong, we just press our efforts in different ways. I hope our exchange has benefited other readers because I've liked what we've talked about so far. Now everyone knows that drinking a glass of water instead of a Pepsi has a relative effect on your health as walking up to an hour a day. Now imagine if you did both?

I don't weight train anymore. I've switched to authentic* yoga, and I've found that it's more suitable for my body type. I have a small frame, slender musculature, and a high metabolism. Yoga helps me maintain flexibility, balance, and, to a minimal extent, muscle tone. This is besides the mental aspect, which has benefits of its own. What I'm saying, is that I've found what works for me. I don't foresee myself being "fat" anytime soon, if ever, so long as I maintain my current lifestyle (you should see my diet).

*These days, you have to make the distinction.

Walk off 350 cals of energy a day and you'll lose about 3/4 pound per week, or 3 pounds a month, or 35-40 pounds a year, for the average somewhat overweight couch potato. A very achievable and worthwhile goal, and often easier for some people than cutting the equivalent number of cals from their diet.

IIRC, it's about 2 Pepsi's worth.

From what I can see this study shows that around 30% of the French are overweight. This still pales in comparison to the US, where around 65% of the population are overweight.

Just look around you. Most people are fat and overweight in the USA. Even in beautiful LA there are still a fair amount of people that are fat. They kind of stand out more cause of all the healthy people that are in LA. It might be diet too. In LA, so-called healthy trendy diet type foods are the norm. Everytime I go to Chicago, I end up gaining weight cause the food is so rich and fattening (yummy) like steak, sausages, deep-dish pizza, Chi-dogs and the portions are huge. In LA, it's like, avocado and sprouts with a sprinkle of sea salt etc.

Man, I can't wait to hit Ditka's again or the joint that serves up awesome subs. And don't forget Greektown. Man I love Chicago. Food in LA is gross (generally speaking) but hey, the chicks are hot and in shape!

I'm not convinced we have enough people taking the piss out of France and the French on this thread. Can we drum up a little more interest please?

How can you show disdain toward a people who brought mayonnaise into the world?! Mayonnaise is the glue that binds us all to a common humanity.
