Iraqi tennis players killed for wearing shorts
This absolutely disgusting, how in the world could you pull the trigger killing another human being because they were wearing short pants!
Iraqi tennis players killed for wearing shorts Shooting was related to a warning by extremists against such attire The Associated Press Updated: 3:44 p.m. ET May 27, 2006 BAGHDAD, Iraq - An Iraqi tennis coach and two of his players were killed because they were wearing shorts, apparently in violation of a warning by Islamic extremists. Gunmen stopped the car in which the athletes were riding and asked them to step out before shooting them Wednesday, Manham Kubba, secretary general of the Iraqi Tennis Union, said Saturday. The coach, Hussein Ahmed Rashid, was Sunni, and the two players were Shiite, Kubba said. The athletes were in shorts when they were killed and police believe the attack was related to a warning by extremists against such attire, police Lt. Maitham Abdul Razzaq said. He said the warning was made in leaflets distributed in the Sadiyah neighborhood in southwest Baghdad a week before the attack. The deaths of the three had previously been reported, but the statements provided more details and clarified that all the victims were tennis players. This was the second attack against athletes in just more than a week. A taekwondo team was kidnapped in western Iraq while driving to a training camp in neighboring Jordan on May 17. The 15 athletes were snatched on a road between the cities of Fallujah and Ramadi, a particularly violent area. The athletes were members of a private sports club that hopes to one day send athletes to the Olympics. Prominent Sunni politician Adnan al-Dulaimi appealed for their freedom during a news conference Saturday at his office in Baghdad. “I call upon the kidnappers of the taekwondo athletes to release the team,” he said. © 2006 The Associated Press. Doesn’t this make you outraged? Is there nothing that can be done to stop the extremists? I know are military is trying but is there any new methodology or weaponry that might help? This isn't political and was placed in general because it should offend the general reader!

Same stupid reason that people in NYC get killed over:
Leather Jacket $.25 Sneakers Looking at another person One young 20something pushed his long time best friend onto the subway tracks because he was jealous over a girl. People are people and they do things that are stupid. nothing new here except that it's in another country.

People are people, and there will always be fanatics of religion who interpret the religious teachings of those in whom they hold faith in any matter that suits them. Not to mention the fact that killing people over religious ideologies isn't exactly a new thing. |

With the situation in Iraq as it is, the fact that there was a reason they were killed makes this situation rare. A horrible example of the human psyche at its worst.

Exactly how did the wearing of shorts injure another person? If I wear a winter parka in the middle of summer who am I hurting? This is just another way, I fear, of trying to control the masses with fear and false usage of doctrine. As someone said... where does it say that one cant wear shorts??? |

Apparently wearing shorts is an afront to God. The next thing you know, they'll be killing 14 year old boys because they whistled at a white woman - oh wait, that was Mississippi, not Iraq. Maybe they'll beat a guy and leave him to die because he hit on another man. Oops, sorry, that's Wyoming. Maybe they'll mutilate themselves and take poison together. Dang, California. Or blow up a federal office building including a nursery because they think the government is out to get them. Man, that was Oklahoma City, not Iraq. How about shooting two guys in the face because they broke up a fight that your brother was in because he's a drunken idiot? Wow, that was North Carolina?
My point is that the Iraqis have no monopoly on people killing other people for the most idiotic reasons imaginable. Neither do Americans. People everywhere have morons living among them.
