Special constable fatally stabbed

Mrs Patel-Nasri was stabbed outside her home
A special constable has been stabbed to death outside her home - days after she challenged three burglars there.
Nisha Patel-Nasri, 29, was off duty and in her night clothes when she was attacked in Sudbury Avenue, Wembley, in north-west London, late on Thursday.

Neighbours, who alerted police after they heard her scream, gave her first aid but she was later pronounced dead in hospital, Scotland Yard said.

A man wearing a hooded top was seen running away towards Harrow Road.

Police said they were looking at the attempted burglary, in which three men tried to get into the house through the front door, as one line of enquiry.

The men left after coming face-to-face with Mrs Patel-Nasri on Saturday night.

The hairdresser was alone at the house she shared with her husband, Fadi Nasri, before the attack took place.

Mr Nasri, who ran a limousine hire company from home, had gone out for the evening.

It is believed the victim left the house and neighbours reported hearing a disturbance.

Police also administered first aid and Mrs Patel-Nasri was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Mrs Patel-Nasri had confronted burglars at her home days earlier

Scotland Yard described her as a popular member of the Metropolitan Police's Special Constabulary in the London Borough of Brent.

Met Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair described the death of Mrs Patel-Nasri as a "huge loss" to the force.

"Our hearts go out to Nisha's husband and family and friends.

"It is a tragedy that a young woman who willingly gave up so much of her valuable free time to work as a police officer in her local community should lose her life in this terrible way.

"Nisha was, I'm told, tremendously popular with her colleagues, who regarded her as a real team player."

Specials have the same powers as fully-sworn police. They assist officers, carrying out their duties in their spare time.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

Well, a thoroughly disgusting act, and i hope the person who did it has a nice few days knowing he murdered a special, and the police really really don't like people doing that. Bring on the gallows.

I don't know much about British law enforcement, how high up in rank is "special constable?" I'm guessing it's a fairly high rank. I'm kind of surprised by this, since around here most officers are armed whether they're on or off duty, but I know that in Europe, law enforcement tend to be less heavily armed. Do they think it was just one person who snuck up, or was it more likely a group of people she had confronted?

A special constable is a volunteer who works a normal job, then does a certain amount of hours as a normal police officer. Very committed people, who do get a lot of respect.
One person was seen running away, so it looks like she was killed by one person ATM.

Specials are the Secretaries, Call takers, Dispatchers and Courtroom cops.

They are not allowed to carry firearms. They rarely have self-defence training (the detention specials do).

What happened is that someone killed a member of the "Cop Club", and we get to see them flip out and turn the country upside down.

Just because you wear a uniform does not make your death a tragedy.

My bitter 2 cents.

Wearing a uniform makes it JUST as tragic as NOT wearing a uniform. Someone being murdered is always tragic. *shrug*

All right.

It was my jaded, ignorant and bitter 2 cents.
