Join the Insomniac Club
Suffer from occassional or chronic insomnia?
Ever feel that sleep is a silly waste of time? Would you like a way to vent your frustrations about your inability to sleep? Do you have a late-night job with computer and no one to talk to? Need a companion to share conversation with until you go back to your mundane daily grind? Do you have a strange body clock that hinders your ability to interact with others? The Insomniac Club is the place for you. We will group together and attempt to entertain each other in those twilight hours. We'll start here. For now, let's just post in this thread, and maybe add something to your sig. But I'd like to take it a bit further. We can make efforts to be on IRC at certain times. Perhaps have an insomniac buddy list via AIM or ICQ or something so we can find other night-dwellers to chat with. Post ideas here. If I get enough response, perhaps I'll build us a little website. Piggybacked this idea from another message board. That insomniac organization died out. We'll have a better one anyway. |

Used to be an amateur Insomniac until my son came along a year ago...!
|
Surely there are more stirrings of interest than this . . .
Anyway, my initial ideas for the website -- Profile areas, where we can easily find ways to contact each other in the wee hours. These would include links to our various TFP journals, perhaps. We could have a community posting of links to sites and media for us to go over in our sleeplessness. I don't know, whatever else you guys can think up. |
I'll come back and see you....oh say at about 3 am mst :)
|
unitl a few weeks ago it was rare we would goto bed around 2am then I would finally fall asleep between 4-7am.
Last summer I would goto bed after the sun rose and sleep last into the afternoon. I'm pretty good now, would die if I had to do my class with no sleep. :D |
i've been an insomniac for year.
however I currently have no way to get to my pc when in bed. damn the luck. |
I have the hardest time going to sleep at night, but during the day I can just roll over and go to sleep whenever I want, so I'm starting to think sleeping at night is a waste of time. I've tried not taking naps, but if I do, I still don't sleep at night and I just get grumpy. Fortunately for the most part my schedule allows me to sleep when I want :)
TFP is my insomniac club...what else do I do when I'm not sleeping! LOL Sign me up. :) Feel free to msg me on AIM if I'm awake at odd hours...onesnowyowl (go figure!) |
Sorry this club won't work for me.. i sleep 24/7.. i'm the opposite.. if ever any of you want to enter my dreams though.. .uhhh. nevermind
|
I am not exactly an insomniac ... I have a hard time going to sleep, but once I am asleep, forget about it. I dont always get enough sleep though.
|
I'm in. Up 'till 2 or 3 every night, sometimes 6 or 7 in the morning.
|
I drink alot of caffeine alcohol drinks at the weekend -- hence im on here alot late at nite. Dunno if thats insomnia or...er .....something lese - but i cant sleep

I'm game.
that is if I'm not sleeping fitfully. enveloped in the sweet arms of feathered slumber, drrooling uncontrollably as I surrender to that nocturnal inebriation called sleep. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. zz. GHRAHZ!!!!!!!! freakin' apnea. lets do it. |
Oh yeah, I haven't shared my insomnia story --
I'm a chronic insomniac. I've had it as long as I can remember. Even when I was 7 or 8 I remember not being able to sleep. I would get up, and tip-toe through the hall with a pillow. Then I would duck low behind the couch, and lay down in view of the TV that my parents were watching. I did that countless times, but was only caught on a few occassions. I tried to tell them that I couldn't sleep and I got bored, but my parents didn't really listen. |
I wonder what the cause(s) of your insommnia could be Antagony.
For myself, when I can't sleep it is generally because I've hit the sack with a question or a prob on my mind that I haven't reconciled....so there I am-spinning. eyes close. psyche goes. By the way have you ever heard of "Sleep Paralysis"? |
There's really a plethora of possibilities of what could be the root of my insomnia. Could be physiological (like a chemical inbalance), or psychological (like chronic depression), or a number of things. I don't worry about it too much, I just consider a part of me.
I hadn't heard of "sleep paralysis" until you mentioned it, but I looked it up and did a bit of reading on it. Very interesting. Why do you ask about sleep paralysis? Do you experience it? |
I'm definetely in. I hate those days when sleep has been impossible, and I walk around in a daze.
If anyone hears of a Fight Club in Taiwan, its probably me. |
okay... i just got my official VIP card to the insomnia club...
it's called a job that dosen't start til noon. :D i've always had tendencies to stay up disgustingly late. strange birds, we be. |
Yessss . . . the ranks of our army are growing.
But still no suggestions for our organization? |
I'm in (note the time).
I typed a bunch of stuff here, then re-thought about it. The rambling I cut and pasted to my journal if you're interested (I strayed WAY off topic). |
Quote:
frickin' subject could stand it's own thread. Imagine...you're sleeping- then all of a sudden your closed eyes open...but they are not open. And you know it. your field of vision is filled with daylight lucid images. streaming impossible images. You know you are in your bed. lying down but your brain feels like it has been plugged into some live wire- electrified and throbbing and you fight with all your might to open your eyes. And when you do, it is only for a moment and you slip back into this...electrified sub-consciesness. All night this goes on. fighting for sleep. usually this sleep/dream/hyperreal state had occured during periods of great stress and I think it was my minds way of escaping. Ohhh I could go on and on....sorry I don't wanna hijack this great thread. but I would be curious if anyone else has experienced this. |
Quote:
Okay, this isn't a suggestion per se, but are our troops gonna consider time zones? I'm in Central....and I'm not sleeping right now. |
be in bed i should
an electrician coming at 7:30am he is still fully clothed I am |
How, Hi are you?
Up I am against the wall. Eastern born. beyond belief. |
Double D:
Time zones are very much a consideration of mine. We have many international folk on the TFP as I have discovered through the IRC channel. I'll be saying "Good afternoon" when other TFPers are saying "I'm going to bed!" And for reference, I too am in the Central time zone. |
I work all night :)
It's great. I've always hated going to bed early PM. I always felt like I was sleeping life away. Now, I sleep when everyone I know is at work and things work out real well. I wake up around noon and can get all my errands done that I wouldn't be able to do with a day shift. I also don't sleep nearly as much when I work all night and I don't even notice. I'll join the club! I'm not always able to be at a computer at regular times at night so I can't suggest a group activity but this thread is great entertainment for now. That sleep paralysis idea is pretty believable. I think that's what I get when I'm sick. I have crazy fucked up dreams that I am almost completely conscious of but not aware or able to do anything about. I've had that as long as I remember. Also, when I expose myself to something really new (video game or a job) that I put a lot of time into, then I'll have crazy sleeping but awake dreams about whatever it is. anyway, it's nice to see I'm not entirely alone at night :) |
Pacific time here...and I'm still up...yay...
|
Sure, I'm in. Though it's not a constant thing. I generally get to sleep at 2-ish, and every few months I'll have periods of a week or two where I don't sleep at night at all.
But really, I think we should evolve out of Needing four-ten hours of sleep every night. Let our bodies learn to rejuvinate while we're awake. It's like that Walken skit: "Do you work?" "Yes, but only part of the time. Every day from nine to five." "That's a full day's work, sir." "Not really. There are huge periods where I'm just sleeping...it's ridiculous." |
haha...
Suffer from occassional or chronic insomnia? yes Ever feel that sleep is a silly waste of time? YES, all the time. Would you like a way to vent your frustrations about your inability to sleep? yes Do you have a late-night job with computer and no one to talk to? no Need a companion to share conversation with until you go back to your mundane daily grind? occasionally Do you have a strange body clock that hinders your ability to interact with others? yes yes. i'm pacific time ... count me in. |
well..........
im in. insomnia is a killer. damnit. seeing the black of night is so much better than living in daylight. that shit aint cool. |
Yes, yes, yes, no, yes, yes.
I'll join if you'll have me. Usually when I'm on here it's in the middle of the night, but ironically, It's 5 in the evening as I join. I love it when the California folks start talking about how late it is in chat as I'm am up in NYC. My new work hours[noon-8pm] allow me to stay up till 4 or 5 without feeling too guilty. |
I t sounds good to me, I've been working nights for 25 years.
|
Awesome. I'm even seeing a lot of sigs change.
|
i'm up for this. i used to be nocturnal, sleeping all day (skipping classes and such) and stayed up all night. i still can't sleep well at night or get up early. blah.
|
I'll join, I'm up till 3-4 oclock every morning. IM me at kmw022 on aim if you wanna chat or anything, If i'm not playing WC3 i'll be on AIM
|
well usualy im up till 5-6 or 7 AM i dont think i qualify as an isomniac cuz i sleep till 2 or 3 in the after noon i think i am just an night owl but thats good enuff for me: you can usialy find me on the TFP IRC chat here are my IM names
AIM: armand665 Yahoo: wispeedcore ICQ: 174408797 MSN: feick@hotmail.com im usealy not on MSn thoug cuz trillian has been having problems with it feel free to message me to just shoot the shit. |
Hey, I'm in until Jinya starts wearing me out at night. ;) Since I'm not where she can, I'm on regularly talking with her from around 10:30 - 1:30 central. I usually hang on Y! and AIM, both IDs are in my profile.
|
oh FEH! I forgot to post my sn. For AIM, i am sadistikwetdream
and i own no other IM programs. |
I'm up late pretty much every night seeing as it's SUMMER and I'm not taking any classes! Yippee!
So I'll join the Insomniac Club, for sure. :D |
Plummie, same here. First summer I haven't taken classes.
Anyway, I'm about to start creating the database for our site . . . |
No summer classes here either. I'm up all day and night.
I've layed in bed for four hours trying to get to sleep. As for suggestions for the organization: since we're up anyways, we should do something - the organization should have some goal |
i havent slept in year, or at least days i cant remeber
|
Hey, Antagony... I know some Flash, so I might be able to create, like, an intro or something.... IM me for details.
|
yeah... unfortunately I belong to this club... i'll be seeing you guys around...
|
*i think i'd like to be considered for membership in your prestigious organization*
|
I'm an insomhiac by genetic inheritance. Both me and my pops tend to retire at al 6/7 am on most nights. I just find the night more relaxing, more understanding(?) to the plight of peace lovers, and it isn't full of the chatter of thoughts and shit as the day is.
I can do more (college) work and to a better standard at night, lyrics come more naturally, I meditate at night, I practice seeing auras at night, I try to develop my psychic abilities at night. It's almost impossible at day, too much mental and physical disturbance. I'm a natural born vampire! |
Quote:
For all of those(us) on the insomniac list, we should all post each other's screen names on the various IM systems, and maybe have our own chat times on one or more of the systems? At least you'll know someone who's on late? Whacha think???? |
woo! solution to insomnia!!!
no, not sleep, you sillyhead. ADULT SWIM!!! trigun, bebop, futurama, and the family guy all in once place.. it dosen't get any better than that. |
Alright guys . . . more progress on a site for us.
Stay tuned. |
Two more nights of insomnia . . .
Tossing, turning, general agitation. I may get us a running site while I'm at work tomorrow. |
3 AM, still awake. Can't sleep, clown'll eat me.
|
4:30 AM. Woke up at 8 this morning, had maybe 3 hours sleep the night before. I am the ultimate ninja, sleep cowers before my mighty prescense!
|
you mean its possible to do stuff in those dead night hours i've normally spend buried with a book? there are other people awake? dude!

Insomnia sucks.
I too have had it since I was a child. Since then it's taken me about an hour since I lie down to get to sleep. And recently it's gotten worse. :P Took me six hours till I finally got to sleep. I think my problem is that when I close my eyes, I start thinking too much. Contemplating about event from the day, or something like that. But then after a while it's more "why aren't I asleep yet." My insomnia makes my insomnia worse. Anyone who can fall asleep when their head hits the pillow should try and live a month like this. ;P |
I've realized that I'm no technically an insomniac. If I don't have a TV or computer and I excercise all day and don't eat after 8 I can get to bed by midnight. The problem is that I would rather kill myself.

Sleep?
Whats that? |
Oh, Helllll yes. Boy do I ever suffer from insomnia. Sleep is a damn dirty waste of time anyway. If I could get away with it, I'd never do it again. Get's a little weird after about day three though.
I'll gladly join the club...but only if I get one of those snazzy club sigs. onesnowyowl: Hmmmm, coincidently I am currently located in Corvallis too. Feel free to come hang out with me. In fact, just moved down here, could really use a friend or two hundred in the area. |
Sleep is for the weak! I've been doing night work or early morning work for as long as I can remember. So I'm up for it.
(Get it? Up for it?) |

Oh god I wish I could get out of this club, but it's like the Mafia. 04:06--have to work tomorrow. Oh man.
|
When on your deathbed you'll look back and wish
"If only I hadn't wasted so much fucking time sleeping. I wouldn't have lived longer, but I coulda lived MORE..." |
eloc:
You are more than welcome to create a sig announcing your membership in our organization. Pretty soon I'll have our site up and you could have it link to that or something. eyeronic: Well put. |
Count me in. Telamon719 on AIM, and I idle in the irc chan every chance I get if i'm not actively talking. Central time (houston) but I'm usually under the influence of alcohol most nights now (read my journal for details. Double D: thanks for the comment and new entry up!:)) so I may be kinda luny when you talk to me late nights.
|
Yeah, I'm here now....
|
Hello again!
I can't really say I suffer from insomnia but rather wierd sleeping patterns. I'm always up between 5 - 5:30 am and by the time work is done, kids are asleep it's about 11 pm before I can crash. I fall asleep great but I always wake up in the middle of the night and am awake for a few hours. Too much on the brain all the time or something. So...don't know if I'm a candidate but I've already changed my sig heh heh :D Oh and Ashton...you really should think about hitting the TFP get-together in Vegas this Oct...it's going to be fun! |
2.15am, been up since 6am, and still my mind keeps me awake.
can't sleep....barney will molest me... |
Im in, IM me at WatashiSeason...(aim)
|
As usual...wide awake at 2:00. There's apparently something mystical and magical about that hour...or so my body/brain thinks. I haven't quite figured it out myself.
|
1:37am, let the insomnia commence.
|
With my new job, I work until 1am, so when I get home, I just can't go to sleep right away...So I may have to join this club!
|
Ill have to agree that the night tends to be more relaxing, especially since most of my summer is spent at the computer. Also,ADULT SWIM KICKS ASS! :cough: anyway... where was I... oh yeah, its always nice and cool at night, and with no one up theres few distractions...
|
I've had insomnia for a long time. I can only take short naps during the day and I stay on the computer all night. Sleeping pills either make me space out or just don't work.
|

Oh, and I think this should be a support group because insomnia is not fun. |
I feel everybody's pain...I adapted to about 3 hours of sleep a night while in college and have never returned to "normal" body-clock time. I don't mind the insomnia, but I also don't mind sharing the time with other people who are on the same ride. It gets lonely when the rest of the world goes to bed.....
Spectre - I dig the quote you posted and think of it often when the sun disappears....CAN'T SLEEP....CLOWN'LL EAT ME!!!! |

sleep.. is for the weak. it is a waste of time, and it can be generally done without. which is what I do. I'm an insomniac by nature, and probably a few other things too. I have the habits, good or bad, of spending loads of cash on books, and staying up all night reading them - leaving me usually broke and somewhat ... dulled to reality - of which, I've lost track in the past 3 years...
|
its not you who has lost track of reality... it is reality that has ost track of you. At least thats what my mum used to say...
|
It's 9:15 am (eastern) and I am still awake. I am soo in.
I am close to sleep, I think, for tonight. I am starting to space out, and my fingers are moving very sluggishly. It's summer time and my body clock seems to be operating on a 26 hour day. For any interested insomniacs, my AIM name is, well, greg700, although you can probably get ahold of me just as easily with a personal message. I am starting to ramble, so adios, and good night! |
2:43am and still running strong. I guess that pretty much puts me in the club. Usually during the summer I do nothing during the day except sleep, but at night I wander the streets with my friends and surf teh TFP.
AIM: sharkey767 Hotmail: Sharkey767@hotmail.com |

I just finished fucking my old stand-by. I'll sleep when I'm dead. |
Huzzah, another sleepless night.
Won't be doing anything productive this time, methinks. |
so anything going with the website?
|
Err, yes. Sorry it took so long to reply --
Database schema is complete. I have a nearly-complete design template. And I have a bit of the backbone code done. Just need to find time to finish it up! |
Were insomniacs
We have plenty of wasted time...
|
Insomniac by genetics, not by choice. My grandmother and father have the same problems.
Anyway, count me in! |
ah...right
|
I'm in this club guys. IM fizzshizz for late night/early morning aim chats.
|
EST for me...I'm definitley in on this club!
|
Well folks, I'm afraid I have a bit of bad news.
Despite my work done and time invested in the not-yet-existant Insomniac Club website, I must delay the project indefinitely. As for the reasons for the delay, I can't really say much. I can't say much because I don't know much. I was more or less vetoed by the higher-ups here on the board. I'm sure they have good reason. Have hope, as it may be possible to renew the project at a future time. So for now, I suggest that we all continue as we have been. Please add a link here from your signature as many have already done. (If you need help doing so, please PM me and I'll be glad to help.) Thanks for sticking around, guys! |
On a lighter note, I don't think I've provided my contact information yet :)
You can often find me in the IRC chatroom, or as Antag0ny42 on AIM. Or if you prefer ICQ then I am 9442049. I'm going to start making an Insomniac Club buddy list, so don't be too surprised if I message you soon ;) |
i've been in the club for quite some time - hence the username!
don't get me wrong, i looooove sleep, but when i'm up, i'm really up!! |
I just cant sleep cuz at night i get migrains but this sounds kewl im in if you want me. . .
|
We'll take what we can get. Welcome aboard!
|
I could easily be a part of The Insomniac Club.
I use games and coding mIRC scripts to help me from getting bored. I usually stay up until 4 am or all night. Wish I knew why I am like this but I gave up trying to figure it out a long time ago. Is there a buddy list or ICQ group yet? |
sure, i'll join, but its not that i can't sleep, its more like, why sleep?
|
I just finished posting a #tfp Chat Guide here -- http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...threadid=18231
Check out #tfp if you haven't before. You can usually find me there. Regardless of the hour, there's usually someone in there to talk to. R1X, No buddy list/ICQ group yet, but I should get on that since I can't do the website (at the moment). I'll see if I can do that soon. |
