A downside to personalized content...

Case in point:

Reader locates and reads an article solely to gather information that assists in mocking article's subject. Reader would normally stay as globally equidistant as possible from said subject. However, now that reader has apparently expressed interest, reader is forevermore lambasted with news, tidbits, and offers on said subject.

It's a kind of payback.

Be careful where you click.

(feeling like a five-assed reader)

I read a couple articles on the recent Tom Cruise fiasco to gather pictures & quotes. Now I'm paying the price. My google news page is littered with Cruise this & that. They're even in my "favorites" section. The horror.

Never mind that with personal content, you're not going to watch as much other stuff as you did before.

I mean, I wouldn't ever have watched this cool documentary on an American Monestary and it's miniture replicas of landmarks if I didn't need to channel surf.

Ohh ya. I love how Amazon.com gets all worked up when I click on something just because I'm curious. All of a sudden, my recommendation page changes from Industrial music CDs to sex advice guidebooks.

Never missed "Melrose Place" or "Lost in Space"
I've seen each "Amazing Race" and "Without a Trace"
But I only watched "Will and Grace" one time one day
Wished I hadn't cause TiVo now thinks I'm gay

I love it!

I never particularly take advantage of personalized content... My attention is usually focused on the body of an article, not on what assinine correlations an algorithm has put together about my habits based on my web browsing... That material is usually in borders, sideboxes, headers or footers

Keep your eyes on the prize!

If I click that link, will google think I'm gay?

In combination with the Tom Cruise favorite it could cement the deal.
