Celebrity Stalking

Last night over dinner with Lucifer and Tivabella (I think that's her handle, my apologies if I got it wrong) I posed the question: If you could stalk any celebrity, living or dead, who would it be?
My response: Jensen Ackles from tv's Supernatural (just because he's serious eye candy) and Oliver Reed (deceased). The latter being my childhood idea of male perfection....a rogue (you may recall the Three Muskateers movies with Rachel Welsh and Michael York) but chivalrous with piercing blue eyes and beautiful features. I think I would be one of those stalkers who goes through the garbage to find stuff I could put in a stalking scrapbook...maybe I would take a lot of pics and have one of those stalking rooms with images of my obsession all over the wall with a life size cut out at the entrance. You know, like the ones you see on those cheesy made for tv movies.

I believe stalking a dead celebrity would be pretty easy. But getting new material for your stalker scrapbook, well now that would be tough.

I've never been one to get all excited about celebrities. Because I am in the business, I see them from time to time. On my flight home from Cannes a few weeks ago, I was in line with Dennis Haysbert (plays the president on 24). We were in the check in line together (he was behind me). We were in the lounge together, the line to get on the plane and then were never more than 15 feet apart as we transfered planes in Munich. The topper was when I was in the bathroom with him three urinals away.

I began to wonder if he was stalking me.

Thankfully in Munich, after we went through the security gate he wandered off to the gate for LA and I was going to Toronto.

While we were standing in line together I almost made the corny quip, "What, you couldn't get Air Force One to pick you up?"

I don't think I would be the type to stalk anyone.

I couldn't care less about "celebrities". In fact I don't like to call them that at all, because all they are is some hack (generally) reading lines and acting crap out to entertain the masses, why would I celebrate them? Or "stars", I get a kick out of people calling them that too. To me stars are bright objects that I look up to, actors I most defanitly do not look up to.
But musicians on the other hand, I wouldn't go so far as to stalk any, but I would love to meet some of them and just get them to show me a few tricks or two. And by musicians I don't mean that crap that is played on the radio, I am talking about people who can actually play their instruments and don't just bang out top 10's and use the formula that is ever-so popular at the current moment in time. I would love to get some banjo lessons from Bela Fleck, or some composition tips from Arjen Lucassen.

Well, there's no one I can think of right off hand that I would like to stalk, but I did see that Three Musketeers movie when I was 10-12 years old, several times, and yes, I was quite fond of Oliver Reed in that film. mmmmmm.

I saw that movie again not long ago, and it's actually quite good, too.

I loved Oliver Reed as well-sexy, overweight bad boy that he was..

I couldn't be a stalker, but I am a starer. Ww were driving up the NJ turnpike alongside a red pick-up truck and I kept staring at the driver-it was Bruce Springsteen. Once I realized that and told the spouse, pointing to the truck, Bruce noticed my pointing at him and took off like a shot.
At the Knoxville airport, sitting waiting from my flight, I saw David Keith standing by the wall with a toddler in a stroller, chatting up a maintenance man. I stared, I probably drooled a bit, but that's as far as I got. Even had my camera hanging off my neck, but my nerve was nowhere to be found.
I've been stalked, but that was just a whacko ex.

Another vote for the "couldn't care less about celebrities" camp.

Otherwise celebrities don't really do anything for me. There are a few I'd like meeting, but there are n't really people that I'd want to stalk.

Apparently there are a number of websites that use Google maps/earth to chart celebrity whereabouts. If you spot a celebrity, say at a coffee shop, you can go online and pin a location.

To me, there's a big difference between "I totally saw Caleb McCeleb at Starbucks yesterday!" and "Alert, Alert! Caleb McCeleb is at the Starbucks at Hollywood and Vine right now! Hey is buying a low-fat mocca macciato!" Furthermore, these sights can be used to establish location patterns for the truly obsessive.

I understand the shock of seeing fantasy people in real life, but I also respect their right to some time off from being in the spotlight.

I could so easily sit down and have coffee with Pink. Ever since "Stupid Girls" I feel like we have a lot in common.

Of course, I felt the same way about Shirley Manson after Garbage released "Stupid Girl", and before that Edie Brickell when she released "Little Miss S In A Mini-Dress", and those restraining orders are still place.

Okay, since seeing Lisa Loeb's ass in that other thread, I'd stalk her.

If I were to stalk a celebrity, I would want it to be someone who's never had a stalker before. I'd want to do it as a sort of favor to help with esteem issues. You know, some D-List celebrity who's never had a stalker.

With that in mind, I think I'd stalk Bronson Pinchot. I'd make phone calls where I'd use the voice he used when he played the art gallery worker in "Beverly Hills Cop." I'd leave mysterious notes where I'd sign them "Love, a Perfect Stranger"

I think he'd appreciate having a stalker.

Speaking of John Cusack... back in the 90s he spent a lot of time in Toronto (filming, attending festivals, etc.). A couple of my friends used to run into him at Film Festival parties or in the club where we used to hang out. Everytime they saw him, they would flip a coin to see who would go up and stand beside him and after a few moments, nod at him and say in a very cool voice, "Heeey. Lloyd Dobbler... alright..."

I never took part in these actions but did witness one of the six or seven times they did this to him. Cusack wasn't amused... but we sure were.

JumpinJesus: That has to be one of the funniest things I've read today! I actually had a discussion about Bronson Pinchot at work the other day, believe it or not.

I think I'd be most likely to stalk David Copperfield...or Ben Gibbard. Though, ideally, I'd just like to meet them and have a nice conversation. I've idolized Copperfield since childhood, and have had the priviledge of being called on stage with him twice. Gibbard's a fairly new interest, but I seriously think he's on of the most gifted lyricists in the last 15 years.

This is one of the sweetest things I have ever read. I think I am tearing up just a bit. Mind you, if you are going to go obscure - what about that kid that played Tootie on The Facts of Life. She is probably due for a mercy stalking.

I met Elvis Costello once. He was buying pizza at a pizza shop in the terminal of the Dallas/Fort Worth airport, about three people ahead of me in line. He was wearing his trademark specs, and carrying a big black doctors' bag with "ELVIS" in needlepoint on it. I figured he wasn't trying to be low-profile, so after he sat down at a table, I went up to him and said, "Excuse me, Mr. Costello, I'm sorry to disturb your dinner, but I'd sure like to shake your hand." He grinned at me, we shook hands, and I thanked him and went on my way. That's as close to celebrity-stalking as I've ever come.

Now... If Jessica Alba moved in next door to me, I'd go straight into full-on stalker buy-a-telescope-and-set-it-up-to-peek-into-her-bedroom mode.

I used to work room service in a hotel when I was young, and I'd go out of my way to grab the orders for celebs I knew were staying there. When stripped of their public persona, half-asleep and angry they're in a hotel instead of their own bed, some real insight on them can be gained through quick observation.

Random thoughts:

Paul Newman was just about the nicest guy I've ever met, celebrity or otherwise. Without all the makeup he's all wrinkly, soft-spoken, and kind. He'd make a good grandpa.

Susan Powder, the Stop the Insanity diet lady, was just as high-strung in her hotel room as on TV. She really frightened me.

Lou Ferrigno was an absolute jackass.

Chris Rock seemed to have let success go to his head. He had his giant of a bodyguard order his food for him (this was in our restaurant) and didn't say a word, just held his nose up.

Mario Andretti was the same way, thought he was God's gift to all the employees of my hotel. His son was a bit nicer though.

My all-time favorite had to be Terry Porter when he was still playing for the Portland Trailblazers. Coolest rich guy I've ever met.

Nowadays? It'd have to be Ben Affleck. I'd constantly be whispering behind his back about how horrible an actor he is. If I'm quiet enough maybe he'll think it's his conscience and he'll go back to making hair replacement product commercials in a foreign country.
