I am not ex forces, and am not ryying to hijack, but would like to share something with you.
Some years ago, my son and I were at a little place on the waterfrount enjoying lunch, and we met some lovely ladies who as a group call themselves 'war babies'. They were all the daughters of GI's stationed here during the war, and they were all desperately searching as they knew time was running out, their fathers growing older. One lady who was talking to us had just a christian name and a ship, and she knew it would take a miracle. None of them had hatred, they all accepted it was just how it was, but all of them had a hole in their lives - if not contact, they wanted to know who they were from, the story of their line. I couldnt find their site, but heres one as an example American WWII Orphans Network: GI baby looking for biological fathers family If any of you were a ww2 GI, with a twinkle in his eye - or if you know one - please think of all these dear ladies searching away. My uncle, apparently, had a daughter living in holland who I only heard about this year. She had made contact with one of the family, and he had asked some others if they would like to write - the aunt who told me didnt bother - like the war baby ladies, she wanted to know where her line came from. I dont know how you chaps feel about the babies you leave behind, many of whom are beyond middle age. I think its very sad. If this post reunites just one pair...... nice thought huh. |
