Vacation Thread
I will be out of the loop for the next couple of days because I'm heading down to Jamaica for a bachelor party. Been to the island before -- good time then, hopefully better this time around. Looking forward to a few days of golf w/ the guys.
Onto my questions -- Where was the best place that you have been on vacation and why was it so great? If you could travel anywhere -- where would you go? I'll give my answers when I get back in a couple of days....

My most recent vacation in San Francisco with my girlfriend was one of the best ever for me. We toured wine country as well and I got to see a couple of my best college friends. Just nice and relaxing. Napa, Sonoma, and Alexander Valleys are an absolute must see.
Best ever might have been either of the two times I spent 10 weeks in Mexico, but that's a little more than just a vacation.

I went to Moscow for my 30th birthday with a bunch of freinds. I'd never been there before and we wanted to go somewhere 'new'.
It was freaking awesome. 3 days of drunkeness and debauchery. Its a MASSIVE city and we did quite a lot, had a great time. I was really suprised as to how freindly everyone was.

Only gone on vacation a handful of times, but the best time I ever had was in Virginia Beach. How does it get better? Cocktails everyday, hangin out on the beach and in the ocean, and watchin the bikinis go strolling by...

Not really special, but the best vacation I took was going to Disneyworld years ago.
Until I moved north, it was the furthest I'd ever gone from home. Actually, now that I think about it... it's still probably further away than where I'm living now. Personally, if I could go anywhere on vacation... I think I want to go to the West Coast... LA or San Fran.... never been there before...

Australia.
Been there quite a few times for vacation, usually staying about 4 weeks. Most of the time I just hang out on the Gold Coast with my in-laws, but have made trips to Sydney, Melbourne, Cairnes, diving the Reef, and climbing The Rock. The climate, the people, the beer, the exotic flora and fauna, the cricket (yeah I got into it) - it's all good. I would move there in a second. One of these trips is definitely going to be "one way".

Maui is clearly my favorite place on the planet, both on dry land, and under the water. You can see whales while eating breakfast. SCUBA in the morning. Snorkel with turtles in the twilight. Get out of the water for a perfect sunset. Then clean up and go to a great place for dinner. The next day drive past dozens of waterfalls on the the road to Hana. Have a picnic and visit an isolated black sand beach and swim in the pools among a number of other waterfalls. It is the most relaxing place I have ever been. What else could you ask for?
Other fantastic places: The Hagia Sophia in Istanbul St Peters in Rome The Tower of London The Hermitage in St Petersburg The Archipeligo in Stockholm The Great Wall and Forbidden City The Three Gorges on the Yangtze The Casino in Monte Carlo The Acropolis Domestic: Wrigley Field and the rest of Chicago Walking to the top of Telegraph Hill in San Fran Going to the top of the World Trade Center (I am really glad I did that when I was in NY) Driving Highway One along the California coast Where do I want to go? I have got to see the Galapagos. But I want to wait until I have more SCUBA experience (and more cash). Someday I want to see Australia and New Zealand and Patagonia.

My best vacation was when I backpacked around Europe for almost 6 months. I was 21, single...what a blast!
These are the countries I visited and my first thought on them. The UK - Good beer and good friends France - My sister was going to the University in Bordeaux. Excellent wine. Spain - I speak Spanish. It was fun to talk with people. Portugal - cheep, cheep, cheep...lots of fish. Monaco - big...really big boats, lambourginis...being driven by hot women. Italy - Some really cool shit to see here, Roman ruins. Greece - All I can say is Beaches Morroco - Wild place...nice people Austria - Love those wiener stands Liechtenstein - walked across the country (twice) in a day. Switzerland - Steep train rides and nice women. Germany - More good beer. Got to go to East Berlin. Holland - Got family there and I love the "cafes" Belgium - I bought a watch there, my biggest purchase. Denmark - I knew a friend from Canada working here. Made for a nice visit. Sweden - Got family here too. This is the place to go if you like blondes. Good food too. Finland - Kinda cold, but still a neat place. I spent under $3,000 for all my costs except the airfare. I'd recommend the trip to anyone... I have family living in the carribean now, so I tend to head that way for holidays

I went to Chile over X-mas break and Easter Island, apart of Chile. Quite an interesting trip I must say. I will never see the world the same again. My eyes are open wider than they were before, thats for sure. It made me appreciate all that we have and take for granted here in the States.

I just got back from vacation and have to say that Prague absolutely takes the cake for me. It is an absolutely stunning city, very clean and safe, with fantastic architecture, a lot to do off the 'tourist routes', a really neat 'retro-future' metro system and the best beer I have ever had.
As for dream places, I'd have to say that I'd like to go to Iceland next. |

I have 2 places that were my favorite, Australia and the Maldives. Australia is just beautiful, everyone should go there once. and the Maldives is a country of islands with coral reefs. Well i was 10 when i went there and the resort island we stayed on was a topless island. Lets just say that begun my corruption and was the best 10 days of my life. As for where I would want to go, im going to last place that i really want to visit this summer. Costa Rica - No parents, surfing, lots of drinking etc....

I just got back from a seven day cruise on the Carnival Paradice which hit up
Belize City, Belize Roaton, Honduras Grand Cayman Couzmel, Mexico Me, my dad, and a friend are all Scuba certified so we dove at each of these ports. Belize is a poor country and its reefs aren't that impressive compared to the other stops. Roaton is also very poor but has resorts that are kept up nice for tourists. Good diving. Grand Cayman is $$$$. The reefs are great. Couzmel is similar to Grand Cayman economically. Couzmel's drift dives are a rush and the sea life (12ft Nurse Shark) is the best we saw on the trip. Last summer I went to Australia and New Zealand and dove the Great Barrier Reef which is fantastic. I recommend any of these places for divers and look forward to checking out Florida /California / Hawaii. |

I went to Dubai with my parents back in Febuary and that was probably the best holiday I've had to date, followed closely by Thailand and Koh Samui.
Dubai is a brilliant place to visit, good weather, amazing city skyline, fantastic hotels... 6 to 7 star hotels to be precise... all scattered around the city. Fantastic! We stayed in the Burj Al Arab which made it pretty special.

My most amazing vacation has to be to Hawaii. 3 days each on Maui and Kuai. A helicopter ride on Kuai and snorkel charter to see a huge school of spinner dolphins were the highlights.
My dream vacation: Maccu Piccu in Peru Dive the Great Barrier Reef down under See the Great Wall of China
