True story, I could not invent that one, wish I was so creative.

Sex change saves prostitute from caning

A Thai prostitute escaped caning for drug dealing in Singapore after a doctor established that the accused, who was identified in a passport as a man, had undergone a sex change, the Straits Times reported on Friday.

Singapore's drug laws, which include the death penalty for possession of certain amounts of drugs, provide for different punishments for males and females.

While male offenders can be punished with up to 15 strokes of the rattan cane for drug-related offences, female offenders are exempt from caning.

The Straits Times said Mongkon Pusuwan's fate had been uncertain for weeks while the court waited for a medical report, which ultimately confirmed that the 37-year-old was a woman following a sex change operation undergone 10 years ago.

The Thai national was arrested close to the city-state's upscale Orchard Road shopping district last December and charged with trafficking 1.52 grammes of cocaine and 2.5 grammes of ketamine.
The one nice thing about their policy, the public does not have to pay for cable for criminals. But this is a very unique style of avoiding serving out a sentence.

Yes, let's applaud a legal system that uses state-sanctioned brutality. It's fucking savage.

Possession of 1.52g of coke and 2.5g of K is considered trafficking? Wow. Couldn't that be personal use?

If you don't like it, don't go to their country. The simple answer is, if you want to break the law, how wrong you think it is, beware the punishments and don't bitch when it happens.

Also Thailand was becoming a cess-pit of corruption, mainly involving drugs. Death sentance? Less drugs. A lot less.

in big letters on ALL immigration papers you fill out.

DEATH TO DRUG TRAFFICKERS

It's like that in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and only in the past decade the Philippines.

It may be savage, but they have low drug use there. For the most part, they also have the highest rehabilitation rates since people are TREATED for the addiction instead of incarceration. So while they may be caned, they are not necessarily incarcerated.

I can say that entering some countries, like Indonesia, can give you the willies. There are all kinds of warnings before you go through customs.

To me, it is the last part of this that makes the most sense. Treating rather than jailing addicts is much better policy. Go after the dealers and treat the users.

Amen. Such things would give me pause before traveling to a country with such regulations...even though i have no intent to carry, use or traffic in narcotics.

I was impressed with the DEATH TO DRUG TRAFFICKERS stamp on my immigration papers for Singapore. But in the end, I spent a few weeks in a beautiful, safe and fairl crime-free country. It was pretty nice.

The title is misleading, implying that the prostitute had SRS to avoid the punishment. The text reveals that she was ten years post-op, so what you actually had was just a woman whose passport needed updating.

Interesting factoid: An American transsexual going to Thailand for her SRS can get a temporary one-month F passport prior to leaving and have it made permanent with verification of SRS upon return.
