The past is a weird place...

Holy cow.

I just came across this clip from the CBC archives. The accent on this lady is what I think of when I think of a rural canadian accent... I think some of my wife's relatives still speak this way.

Here is another from the archives... the police are really upset about street skurfing.
(and check out a very young Lloyd Robertson, the most trusted man in Canadian news).

and an interview with Orson Welles... he was great.

Thank you for posting these. The first one sounds just like some of my family as well. I'd pay 10 bucks to hear her say "we picked up a box of beer".

Weird, indeed....

Don't criminalize homosexuality, rehabilitate it!

And Jack Layton with hair!

Love it! Its odd how much accents have largely disappeared from North America. My grand parents generation for example had a very thick down eastern Maine accent, my parents generation has it a little but only on certain words or phrases, my generation has lost it all together. Here in the South I rarely come across somebody with a thick southern accent. Just an observation I have no idea why I bothered typing that oot

Anyway in the spirit of the thread, here's a blast from the past you would NEVER see today.

A young Jack and John. Wow, that was kind of neat.

And... Barbara Frum looking young and cute.

Interesting about the homosexual chat. It's almost word for word that same conversation that is happening in Singapore right now. Fascinating.

Lloyd R sounded exactly the same as he does now.
I would not have liked Lyatpon back then either.

This is one of my favourite things in the CBC archives. PM Trudeau stands his ground with the press during the FLQ Crisis. Try to imagine *any* nation's leader standing toe to toe, unscripted with the press.

Another Gzowski interview... this time with Gilda Radner and Lorne Michaels

I didn't recognize Lloyd until he opened his mouth.

...

We could do with more politicians like Trudeau.
