Can this possibly be real?
WARNING: The following made me absolutely sick to my stomach, and I've been shot in the leg. It's a video depicting a US soldier deployed somewhere (Iraq/A-stan) that throws a puppy off a cliff.
It's so shocking, though, that I have trouble believing it's real. If it is? This man not only shouldn't be in the military, he should be under 24 hour care of a mental health professional in a confined place. If it's not? It was made to drum up support for the anti-war movement by a very sick individual. Second warning: this is one of the most fucked up things ever. Viewer discretion is strongly advised. http://www.dumpert.nl/mediabase/4346...oit_puppy.html |
Why would it be fake? There are plenty of sick fucks out there. This one just happens to be one of them. Pretty sad about the puppy though.
Then again, this is the internet.... Case in point: That's a commercial, by the way. |
It's possibly fake for a few reasons. One is the doppler effect that you don't hear as the puppy is tossed away. Two is how quickly it reached the top of reddit. Three? I don't want to believe it's real.
It sounded as if his name was "Buatarri" or "Watari". I want whomever is responsible held accountable, be it real or fake. I sent it to Snopes along with a few military buddies in the region. |
The doppler effect could be attributed to the shitty quality of the video.
EDIT: I can't find direct quotes right now, but check out The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien. Specifically the parts about the puppy being strapped onto the land mine and detonated and the baby buffalo that they took turns slowly shooting into. I don't know what these guys had seen, but war takes its told one one's mind. |
So what do you want to do with that information? Go over there and talk to him?

Better a dog than a person?
I'm not going to watch a video of a dog being thrown over a cliff, whether it's real or not. People do crazy shit in reaction it stress, including the stress of being shot at. I spent a couple hours on base in a cell with a guy who was going to Leavenworth for having ear-and-nose necklaces, collected from Iraqi civilians. Not sure what me getting outraged about it accomplishes. He'll get what is coming to him. |
Not at all. I'm sure there will be an investigation now that his identity is common knowledge.
