Trent Reznor: Steal My Music
This video is actually about a month old, but I just came across it because I'm about a month behind on my internet news :p Either way, it's very interesting and I just love it. If you don't know the backstory, a little while back, Trent Reznor was in Australia and discovered that his latest album was selling for far more than many other albums in the store. He asked a record exec why his album cost about $35 while Avril Lavigne's cost about $21, and he was told that it's because his fans will still pay the higher price. He was upset about this and spoke out against it in the media. He recently returned to Australia for more concerts, and this video is from one of those.
Afterwards, there was an article in the Sydney Morning Herald: http://www.smh.com.au/news/web/steal...881482912.html |
brave man.....they will bury him

I wouldn't expect everyone to know this, so please don't feel like I'm being condescending if you already do, but just in case.... Trent Reznor's career spans more than two decades, a single, double, triple, and quadruple platinum album and two gold albums, 2 Grammy awards, 8 nominations...the list of accomplishments goes on. There are two problems facing any record exec who wants to bury him: the first is that he's reached a point where he can't exactly be buried - all the successful marketing for his most recent album was done without the participation of his label, and the second problem is that if anyone tried to bury him, it'd hurt the argument they love so much, that they're doing it "for the artists." Anyway, some more followup... It will also be difficult to bury him in the "sabotage his career" sense, because he's now officially free of any label affiliation as of a couple days ago, since he finished his last contractually obligated album for Universal Music Group. |
Yes, he can now join Prince and Radiohead as the music industry's coolest (and most talented) iconoclasts.

Trent is the shit.
The Downward Spiral is an excellent album. |
PHM is still his best work.
:) Love it. |
he looks like he put on a little weight.
didn't he used to be like skin and bone? and anyways, if he really wanted to have people steal his music i'd just think he'd have a tour to give his cd's away for free ;) but yeah, this goes well with what i wrote in the media defender thread. http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthread.php?t=124164 |

In the last few DAYS, Radiohead, Trent, and Madonna have all ended their relationships with their labels. These are some of the biggest names in commercial music, and they're saying they're through with the label system.
This is HUGE news. Big Music is DEAD, people. |

Maybe ailing, but not dead. When Apple Corp let you download the beatles back catalogue for what it really costs them to supply it, THEN record labels are dead. :orly: |

Nah - but I hear his wife hasn't a leg to stand on in the divorce court.
