The family in Mexico could save a third if they didn't buy all that soda.
Is that all beer in the German household?
Interesting...I have a family of four and maybe spend $100 a week...then again, fast food gets eaten about 2-4 times a week here too, but it's cheaper to feed us some Wendy's....

You'd have to calculate all that fast food as part of the food and the expenditure, dawg.

That was a really cool series.

There needs to be a follow up. At the end of the week, how much of that food just gets tossed out?

At about $15 a day, figure $45 a week on fast food and I average about $80, maybe less on groceries(we don't buy steaks and mostly meats or fish on sale), we don't buy soft drinks and things like side dishes and snacks I buy on sale and/or with coupons. I can usually knock about 20-30% off a $90 bill easy. I can't imagine what they're spending $200-300 on!!!

Whoa, I don't spend more than $60-80 every three weeks.

The American household was so colorful.

I found the article by looking at image address, and does seem as though there will be a floow-up, considering the name of the article is titled "What the Word Eats, Part I".

Here it is on Time's site: http://www.time.com/time/photogaller...626519,00.html

The story is adapted from the book Hungry Planet, so if you would like it in full detail, you can always seek it out.

Very interesting indeed.
