171 Starbucks in One Day
from the videologist
Mark Malkoff walks by four Starbucks every day on his way to work in New York City, which made him wonder: How many franchises of the coffee chain are actually in Manhattan? There are 171 ... and he set out to visit them all in one day -- which meant a different Starbucks every seven minutes for 20 hours. His short movie about his experience is below -- after about 14 hours, he ends up getting disoriented from all the caffeine. Watch for the cameo by Mark Linn-Baker of 'Perfect Strangers'! I never knew there were 171 of them in our fair borough of Manhattan. I have never paid for or bought a single item at a Starbucks, ever. But you know Foamy expresses how I feel about Starbucks better than I can... http://steve.quyenhart.com/images/foamy.jpg Small Medium Large |
I have never tasted coffee. That's it.
Tea. (damn British heritage and Japanese prospects) Observation: most annoying broadcaster voice in recent memory. |
This was a bit of craziness, and it was entertaining enough. Starbucks, meh, I have mixed reactions to them. They aren't my preference. My favourite cafes tend to be independent, like Le Gourmand in the Queen/Spadina area in Toronto. Delicious food that would embarrass Starbucks in both price and quality...and their coffee costs only $1.50 (compared to around $2 at Starbucks).
Starbucks is, of course, mainly about brand, which is why videos like this get produced in the first place. Quote:

I live across the Hudson in Newark and I just call it the city or Manhat'n. I don't think I've ever heard someone pronounce it Man Hat Tan before.
Oh, and why was he drinking espressos constantly then bitching about it. He shoulda just ate the desserts then some coffee from time to time. He was kind of annoyingly whiney. |
Its amazing that there are that many stores and we really have a need for the many stores.... ;(

This is like a shitty high school video project... right down to the horrid attempts at cleverness, the shit acting, the shit writing, the completely awful and predictable soundtrack of worn-out songs, and the obvious attempt to use every cheap visual affect the visualFX toaster they worked off while editing had to offer. If legitimate video production can be called someone's baby, this is an abortion.
Also, the host/narrator is an asshat, but seems to think he's talented. Nothing is more painful to watch than an untalented asshat who thinks he's awesome. If I end up dying of brain cancer, I will remember this day as the impetus to my demise. /scathing review for my own personal amusement, though I'm pretty much sincere about the lot of it. |

I also don't have anything against Starbucks. I used to, and then someone asked me why and I didn't have an answer. I want to hate them on principle - just because they're everywhere - but they seem to be a pretty good company. And they make my wife happy. And their coffee-esque drinks are tasty. |

ugh... he's such a pansy. "feeling pretty good considering I've had about 8 espresso shots in the last 3 hours"
...there's less caffeine in a doubleshot of espresso than a normal cup of coffee... though I *am* pretty impressed he didn't keel over from drinking that much nasty coffee alone... I think the world would have been glad to be rid of his enunciation, if you can call it that ^_^ |
