I would like to apologize to Sisman, even though I deleted my response before I posted it. I thought it was a stupid question, but now Apple has released Safari for Windows.

So Sisman, how'd you know it was coming?

That makes sense. With iTunes, you're working with something that is less likely to attract security concerns because of the nature of the app. Safari on Mac never had to worry about anything because there are so few security dangers to the OS both because the OS is more rare and because the OS has excellent security built in. XP and Vista aren't anywhere near as secure as Mac OS X, so now they have to figure out how to compensate, while still keeping the speed.

I wonder if the speed hacks available for Firefox or IE on Windows can make the apps comparable in speed to the new Safari. A was talking to a friend of mine last night who said he didn't really see a difference.

I don't understand why Apple would CARE about Safari's market share. I never understood the browser wars to begin with. For sure, when IE was locked into Windows, Microsoft wanted IE to become the predominant browser, because you had to buy Windows to get it. But.. what does it earn Apple to have Safari go from 5% to even say 15% market share? I just don't get it!

But I'm a Firefox boy. I switched to a mac a few months ago and I've literally used Safari like twice.

Safari is meant to help the iPhone the same way that iTunes is mean to help the iPod.

OSX is not more secure than windows, they have a smaller market share and thus a smaller incentive to attack and exploit it. if i am looking for an exploit, I'm going to look where i can use it the most, not the least; no one looks for windows 3.1 exploits anymore. there are fewer used exploits, but not less vulnerable.

You're arguing with yourself. It is more secure, and one of the reasons it's more secure is that very few people see the benefit in going after 5% of the market instead of 90%. The thing is, there are people out there trying to make spyware and viruses for Mac. For a time, Mac even offered a reward to someone who could crack OS X. No one won. I see a cash prize as incentive. There are only a few unconfirmed hydras or worms for Mac, and no confirmed hacks for the OS.
