"Fundamentalists Say the Darndest Things!"

Apologies if anyone is offended by this, but I think most people can see the flaws in the majority of these statements, regardless of religious belief. Most of them are pretty funny, and at least one is quite depressing.

(Again, no offense intended to anyone. There are stupid people in all walks of life and all belief (or non-belief) systems. This page just happens to deal mainly with one group. However, it does include more than just Christians, such as their "Secular Fundie of the Month" (currently #71).)

Some of that is just plain stupid.
Some of it is just plain delusional.
But...some of it is downright bone chillingly scary.

I have to agree 100%, but this site also makes me very sad. Half of those people don't even have common sense. The other half are mis-reading and taking sections of the Bible out of context to support their beliefs.

Sadly, common sense is not common.

I will say though, most of these apear to be random posts from random people. Just because someone makes a comment about God does not make them a fundamentalist...

edit: I made the first post after just scanning a through a few.. just to prove my point #5 is from a frigging penny arcade post. All I am saying is this is not a true repersation of fundamentalist. I just think if you are going to make a website making fun of a group of people then your quotes should actully be from that group of people... To be fair the site in question also has a "Conspiracy theorist say the darndest things" and "Racists" section.

edit: I just also wanted to add that I am not what I would consider a fundamentalist. I believe in God but, well I wont get into it, I am in no way offended by this or getting angry over it just putting out that if you scour message boards on the internet you can make any group of people look like utter fools.

"...the term fundamentalist is frequently used improperly to refer to a broad range of conservative, orthodox, or militiant religious movements." I think this website is using that definition. It doesn't change the fact there are people out there that believe the things posted on this website.

Hmm.

On the other hand... there're probably a lot of non-believers who are just as stupid or ignorant. I guess these people are numerous (both sides).

What this means to me is that the oft mentioned pillars of of democratic society are crucially important. Independant institutions such as universities and press (although this is more a theory than actuality IMHO), independant judiciary, and a voting system that averages stuff out, in terms of people's views.

very interesting quotes from religious fundamentalist. I enjoy listening to the logical arguments as well as the numerous absurd views. It's amazing how many people hold so strong to everything that their preacher, pastor, priest, etc teaches them, that they forget to use their own brains to reason for themselves.

Sadly, many of them are taken from forums dedicated to religious fundamentalism where you will find the other members in agreement.

Clearly, the type of people who participate on forums where discussion of even Christian rock is prohibited (because rock music is evil) are not even close to a majority of religious people. Still, they are out there, as much as I'd like to believe they're really atheists trying to make religious people look bad.

Also, there are some stupid statements from atheists on the "Fundamentalists Say the Darndest Things!" page as well, although the page does focus primarily on fundamentalist Christians. Sadly, it's not too difficult to find militant atheists either: 20/20's recent 'debate' between 2 atheists and Kirk Cameron & Ray Comfort is proof of this. It's unfortunate how far 20/20 has fallen since Ted Koppel left, but they got 2 ridiculous fundamentalist Christians, and 2 rude, militant atheists for the 'debate.' Rather than a news report, it was a sad lesson in stereotypes. So, fundamentalism is out there in all shapes and sizes, even when we'd like to think it's too ridiculous to be true
