I, myself

Do put put a comma after "I" in this situation?

I, myself have met with them before.

I don't think so.

I myself have met with them before.

Yeah, that looks better.

The key question may be: why do you need the word "myself"? It's kind of redundant. Depending on the context it might work, but there should be a better way of saying what you're saying.

i believe it would be "I, myself, have met with them before."
But lordjeebus is right, that does sound redundent. How about: "I have met with them." have and before are both implying past tense so you dont need both.

spived is correct, but really it's just being redundant. If anything, you'd want to say, "Myself, I have met with them before." However, this only in a situation where you're specifically distinguishing yourself from another. e.g...

"Have you guys met with the prof yet?"
"Well these slackers haven't, but myself, I've met with him."

It's still redundant though.

This is an example of a reflexive pronoun. The most common use of reflexives is to A: show that an action was completed without aid- "I cooked dinner myself." B: show that something was done for the benefit of the doer- "I cooked dinner for myself." C: emphasize to uniqeness of the object or direct object- "I cooked dinner for the President himself."

The use of the reflexive to emphasize oneself in the first person is not grammatically incorrect, but does sound redundant. It is best to separate the "I" and "myself" by the maximum distance- "I haven't met with him myself."

Personally I'd just leave the "myself" out of it and solve the problem - Since you and yourself are in all probablility it really doesn't make a lot of sense to ay it twice -

I, I have met with them before.

Usually you only say "aye aye" when it followed by "sir".

Usually when you add a second word referring to yourself you imply that the statement is from your opinion. It would be necessary in some cases, but in others, It would be redundant.
