SCSI converter/adapter question

Okay recently got ahold of a Yamaha CDRW

http://www.yamaha.co.jp/english/prod...crw4416s_e.pdf

Problem is that it is a 50 pin and the computer it is supposed to go into is a 40 pin.

Is there any way I could get ahold of something that would make this possible? I know I am showing glowing ignorance here, but I am completely stumped. I have done googles and ebay searches for scsi adapter/converter stuff and I am not coming up with anything that I think would work. Is there something I am missing or am I just screwed on this one?

Thanks in advance

You need to get an SCSI card, I have an Adaptec 2940 that has 50 and 68 pin connections. They can be found used on e-bay fairly reasonable, but you do need to read up on SCSI protocols; it isn't like any of the conventional methods of cableing; it's also WAY too involved to go into here; tell you what, y' wanna sell it?

The 40-pin connecter is IDE, not SCSI, so it wouldn't work even if you did get a converter...somehow.

doh, sorry its just not been my day today

40 pin on the PC side is IDE its a SCSI drive, you can do IDE perphiperal to SCSI bus, but not the other way around, at least not that i know of.

Yes you will need a SCSI card in your PC.

apologies MPEDDrummer, i was thinking the header on the CD, not the PC.

I did; go on e-bay and look for an Adaptec 2940 SCSI card; it fits in an open PCI slot, once you have it, you can "daisy-chain" a shithouse of SCSI devices; it's actually pretty cool.

No problem; SCSI is really fast as far as transfer speeds go, BUT (there's always a fuckin' BUT, isn't there?) it does require some learning on your part; I would suggest that you do a Google search for SCSI basics and read and understand as much as you can. Remember, Google is your friend!
