Thanks. I've always been amazed by how drag slicks work, especially on extreme cars like dragsters, Funny Cars, ProStock, etc.

I think this is a good introduction to the basic concept, but I found this particular vid somewhat underwhelming. I recall seeing high speed camera shots that more dramatically showed the tire deformations and how they are used to enhance the launch, as well as things like how extremely the tires stretch out at high wheel revs.

Top Fuel dragsters are bad ass. I wish there was a way to simulate a run in one, I'd do it in a second.

You could spot a Ferrari Enzo 200mph at the starting line and the dragster would still beat it in the quarter mile. That's fast.

Wasn't there an amusement park ride that did this? It was two dragsters side by side on rails. All you had to do was mash the gas pedal when the light turned green. Don't remember how fast it went but it was interesting.

I thought I saw it on one of those travel channel shows where they go around the country and show the different parks and attractions.

If I ever went to the place that had this I'd definitely ride it more then once.

cryo,
Just a little levity to reflect the chuckle I got: I'm really appreciating your "thanks" in light of the fact that it took 9 months to come to life; so it reminds me of planting the seed of life and 9mo later a little human pops out.

Please read this on or about May 10, 2009: Your welcome!
