While in college I did the OCS thing for the Marine Corps. That lasted for almost 4 years. During that time I met too many to count. As with anything, there was a full spectrum of people/personalities.

Aside from this I've known many people throughout my life both relatives and friends who were/are involved in the military.

The best of them were among the best people that I've ever met in my life. The worst of them were a couple of rungs higher than the worst people I've met in my life.

Take that for what it's worth.
