Note, when trying that, Gentoo does NOT use XF86Config-4, it uses XF86Config. I never understood why distros held onto the old one and insist on calling the new one by a different name and I'm glad Gentoo doesn't.
Personally, I've always found the -config option to be a PITA and normally XF86Config works fine. It's a little more difficult for me to see the problem not knowing much about non-nvidia graphics cards. Are you SURE your refresh rates etc were all exactly correct? *shrug*
I'll keep thinking of possibilities. Been awhile since I've faced a no screens found error.
