I don't like the hostility towards police being displayed in some responses here. I think it comes from fear of the unknown, or stupidity.

Phred, I just lost a ton of respect for you. You have little chance of getting it back.
I hope you never have to call "some jerk-off in a dark uniform" to save your ass.

I have incredible respect for the men and women who spend thier lives helping people, and getting shit on from every side while doing so.
Whose life did YOU save today? Save any kids from abusive parents lately?

STFU and thank a cop today.

Yeah, you're right. I got overly emotional. I am proud of the police officers in my family. That's not an excuse for being a jerk, just where I'm coming from.
