I'd say dont' be embarrased to ask the girl what the rules are. Hell, everyone is a virgin at lap dances, until their first one. The girl is going to be very straightforward with you if you just ask directly. Sometimes they even ask if this is your first time and that makes it even easier.
Wear loose comfortable slacks so it's easy to get an erection if you feel like it. Tight jeans may look good, but you're not there to look good for the other patrons, you're there to enjoy yourself.
