With the practice I have had IDing a target takes a split second, in low visibility situation if I am concealed I wait till I am able to tell. It all happens naturally, but If I am exposed and caught and I can't tell who it is it's shoot first ask questions later.
(This applies to paintball and the videogame Tactical Ops)
