How about, the people previously under the NDA were able to start expressing their opinions about it, thus he was able to start hearing those opinions and forming his opinions from those opinions? That's why mention NDA.
I'd agree with you about criticizing games before playing them if MMORPGs didn't have a double cost and more of them did what EQ did, which is have a final beta phase that accepts everyone and lasts about a month before launch, so people who are interested but not lucky enough to get in the early betas can see if the game is worth playing or not before shelling out 50 bucks plus a monthly cost(I know, most similar games ship with a free month or whatever, but the double cost still exists, in that if you don't like the game, you're not even left with a game you can dig up and play when you're bored on a sunday afternoon like other bad games I've purchased.)
