Simple question... Why do alarm clock snooze buttons delay 9 minutes?

I had an alarm with variable snooze and I'd set it to 59 minutes. Nothing like waking up 2 hours earlier than you actually wanted looking at the clock and going "Hell yes, another hour"... twice
