Nina sat silently, feigning disinterest in the conversation. She acted distracted by averting her eyes and playing with her food, but she was careful to catch every word that was said about the quest.
'These boys know less than I do,' she realized with disappointment.
She considered ditching them for more likely lads, but there was something about Vanelee that amused her, though she couldn't put her finger on it.
As for the others, Matt was a glutton with atrocious manners and Dreggan was nothing but a common scoundrel with an ego the size of a giant's forearm.
Nina loathed men, especially men such as these, lies, all lies.
As she was glancing about in disdain, there was a large eruption of noise by the door. A drunk guard had stumbled in and was now laughing boisterously with a group of his friends, who were all in various stages of intoxication.
"And then he threatened to strike me with a lightning bolt!," the guard roared with laughter, doubling over and slapping his knee. "And the stupid kid tripped on his way to attack me and was knocked unconscious!" Another eruption of laughter. Nina chuckled to herself, she had never seen such a gathering of miscreants.
