A pair of twinkling mischievious eyes peered out from an over-sized green hooded cloak at the robust roaring men devouring the racks of lamb and turkey legs and pouring rich red wine down their thick throats.
Croutched in a darkened corner, surveying the feast with hungry eyes and a watering mouth, a child-like girl waited for the perfect moment to snatch an apple from the plate of an inebriated warrior.
Timid black curls peeked out from the edges of the hood, a slight nose with a healthy smattering of freckles, dancing green eyes, and a ridiculously innocent grin. The age and childish build of the girl hide an acute and curious power, a magic which she has neither learned to understand nor control in her short lifetime.
Her small build made it easy to go unnoticed, however, and that was how she had learned about the quest.
'At last!' A warrior in the middle of the room had fallen asleep on the table and left a whole plate of food nearly untouched. The girl-child crawled quietly under the tables, picking her way through bones, dropped weapons, shields, and large feet. When she reached the spot where the sleeping warrior sat, she peered up through the cracks in the table, noted her surroundings, and let one hand wander up to the plate and snatch down its contents. She sat cross-legged under the large oak table and nearly swallowed an entire turkey leg whole. In her famished state, she didn't notice the young man with the amused look on his face leaning down to watch her devour the food.
