I've been tested a few times. One thing EVERYONE should be made aware of is that Herpes is NOT included in the tests when you go an ask your doc for the STD workup.
This is because the virus can be in your system but there's no way to know if it's genital herpes or oral herpoes, shingles or whatever.
The reason I know this? Lucky me. My birthday shag had herpes, didn't know it, and he'd been tested just a month earlier. We used condoms, didn't help. The gift that keeps on giving. Was thinking about doing a seperate post about it just for educations sake. All I knew about Herpes was not to let a guy go down on me if he had a cold sore. I didn't know about the symptoms, about how the virus can be shed even if no symptoms showing, that it doesn't just affect the "working bits" but can be around the scrotum, inner thigh area (ie. areas not covered by rubber).
My doc said that 1/8 people who are tested for it have HSVii and most never knew about it. She also said 90% of people have HSVi (usually as oral herpes - cold sores!).
not much difference between HSVi and HSVii - just the structure of the virus.
Anyway, I'll be getting re-tested in January (haven't shagged since and it's highly likely I won't be shagging prior to then either) and then will see. Yay for enforced celibacy. :/
