Trailers tend to give you an idea, not if the movie is good or not, but rather if you're the type of person that this film is aimed at.
E.g. When I see Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant in Two Weeks notice, I know that it is not the movie for me. It simply isn't my thing. In essence, I know it will suck.
If I see a film, which I think does look like it may appeal to me, then I will probably go check it out. It may be good, or it may be bad.
In essence, it's easy to see from trailers that certain films will be shit. It's harder to know if a film is going to be good...
