Jim Carrey to Star in 'The Six Million Dollar Man'

HOLLYWOOD -- "The Six Million Dollar Man" is up and running. The project, long in development, was put on the fast track after the studio met with superstar Jim Carrey, fresh off the over $470 million dollar worldwide gross of "Bruce Almighty," and set the actor up with writer/director Todd Phillips. The combination of Carrey and Phillips led to a fresh, hilarious take on the potential franchise.
"The Six Million Dollar Man" will be written and directed by Phillips who has co-written and directed the blockbuster comedies "Road Trip," "Old School" and the upcoming "Starsky and Hutch."
"The teaming of Jim and Todd is the perfect creative combination to launch the 'Six Million Dollar Man' franchise," said Dimension Co-Chairman Bob Weinstein. "Todd is a director with proven instincts and Jim is a superstar."
Dimension Films and Universal Pictures will co-finance. Dimension will be the lead studio on the film with Andrew Rona and Brad Weston, Co-Presidents of Dimension, overseeing with Mary Parent, President of Production overseeing for Universal Pictures.
Michael Zoumas, SVP Production and Development will also work on the film for Dimension.
Phillips is currently completing production on the comedy "Starsky & Hutch," starring Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson and Snoop Dogg, which is a Warner Brothers/Dimension Co-Production. The studio has an overall deal with Phillips and has several projects in development including, "School for Scoundrels," which he and Scot Armstrong are currently drafting. As soon as the duo completes the script for "Scoundrels," Phillips will begin working on "Six Million Dollar Man."
Scott Budnick, VP of Production, will supervise development for Phillips' Gentlemen Pictures, which has a first look deal with Dimension.
Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin along with Scott Faye of Collision are attached to produce the film. Scott Cherrin will co-produce.
"The Six Million Dollar Man" will be based on the popular 70's TV show THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN. The show, which starred Lee Majors as Astronaut, Cornel Steve Austin, followed the adventures of government agent who was half man, half machine as he solved crimes across the globe. The show was based on the novel CYBORG: A NOVEL by Martin Caidin.
Jimmy Miller and Eric Gold of Mosaic Media had the idea of taking the existing franchise, previously owned by Dimension and Universal Pictures, and teaming their original comedy idea with Jim Carrey and Dimension.
Carrey was repped by Eric Gold and Jimmy Miller at Mosaic Media, Nick Stevens at UTA and attorney Debra Klein. Andrew Gumpert, EVP of business and legal affairs, negotiated on behalf of Dimension. Phillips was repped by attorney Warren Dern of Offer, Weber & Dern and Todd Feldman at WMA.
