I think iTunes uses as much RAM as it does because it's a full-fledged online music purchase application and CD burner/ripper as well as an audio player, 'Net radio app and jukebox database. Comparing it to something as simple as WinAMP or even MusicMatch seems a little knee-jerk to me.
