This is a delicacy (and I use the term loosely) typically found in Lutheran churches in the midwest sometime in the winter. It is a Norwegian dish (that is hard to find in Norway, I am told) comprised of cod that is preserved by soaking in lye. It is rinsed thoroughly, boiled or baked, and served with melted butter.
