The thing is, most people don't want to have to take that leap and would much rather just have an arbitrary leader decide what is arbitrarily best for them. When you've got a wife, kids, bills, mortgage, investments, office politics, etc., the last thing you want to have to do at the end of the day is be an arbitrator of your own. For most people, it's just not practical, however beneficial it may be in the long run.
