They are classified as <b>Monotremes</b> or egg-laying mammals of which there are only three known species -
the platypus and two species of echidna (spiny anteater).
To add to the list of wierd characteristics, the platypus is the only mammal to produce its own venom.
The male has a poisonous spur on each rear leg that injects the toxin.
While not known to be lethal to humans, a jab will put one in hospital.
The platypus gets my vote for the weirdest. Actually I think he's just proof that God has a sense of humor.
That was my reason for taking it as a nik.
