I believe at a certain point the dying from exposure to cold isn't as you would expect. The initial chills/shivering/etc. would be bad, but you do eventually fall asleep and die that way. And the Everest situations usually also tie into lack of oxygen at higher altitudes, and you usually hallucinate, so you may not realize you are dying.
My fear is dying by having my body detiorate over time, but having my mind in tact. To know that you are dying, and it may take a couple of years, and not be able to stop it, and eventually be unable to move, is the worst in my opinion.
