Yes, you're right with this, but sometimes this isn't a bad thing. Like I said earlier, Morrowind can be damn boring sometimes, simply because it doesn't excel in the story department. RPG's today are accustomed to different gamers. Final Fantasy RPG's are about telling a story and building up your characters, while Morrowind is about being able to do literally whatever you want to (don't even have a plot you have to follow). Personally, I like both types of RPGs. I like a healthy dose of story and character depth, but I also like being able to kill the entire village of Caldera in Morrowind simply because the guard told me to put up my sword.
