A man who lied about having a son who died in the World Trade Centre attack to get £100,000 in charity funds has been jailed for up to 33 years.
Cyril Kendall, 54, a father of 12, stole money from the American Red Cross and Safe Horizons for an imaginary son, Wilfred, 29, who he said was in the trade centre when the two towers collapsed.
Kendall said he used £60,000 for family grief counseling and the remainder on related expenditures, including a memorial service.
During his trial, four of his children testified that they had a brother named Wilfred. They may now be charged with perjury.
