In general, with laptops, I've found two things. First, if it has a touchpad, it's very easy for the palm of your hand to accidentally touch it and cause the mouse to click in other areas of the screen. Second, the keys are much more sensitive, so you may accidentally press a key and not realize it (home key in this case, which seems unlikely).
Even if this isn't the problem, I would get a regular mouse and disable the touch pad.
