MTV is Not Relevant
To quote from Pete Townshend's Jools and Jim:
Anyone can have an opinion
Anyone can join in and jump
Anyone can pay or just stay away
Anyone can crash and thump
Some bands are popular because they are innovative & creative, some are highly technically skilled, some are great showmen, some are excellent lyrically.
Bottom line is, we like what sounds good to us.
Arguing in generalities (they suck, etc.) about which band is better than the next is pointless.
You're not going to get a person who either loves/hates a band to change his/her mind.
