I use Flashget, and will recommend it. If you want to get rid of the spyware you need to register it then you can run adaware or spybot to remove the spyware that is installed for the "free" or "ad supported" version instead of the spyware free "registered" version.
Mostly people have tried a few and just stayed with the one that they liked or the one that worked best for their needs.
